Storia della nostra scomparsa di Jing-Jing Lee è un romanzo che affronta uno degli aspetti più tragici e dimenticati della Seconda Guerra Mondiale: la sofferenza delle donne di conforto, le "comfort women", vittime della brutalità dell'esercito giapponese. Quando ho letto che il libro veniva paragonato a *Memorie di una geisha*, mi aspettavo una lettura intensa, ma non immaginavo quanto la storia di Wang Di, la protagonista, sarebbe stata ancora più dolorosa e cruda.

Nel 1942, Wang Di, una giovane ragazza di sedici anni, viene strappata alla sua famiglia nella Singapore occupata dai giapponesi e costretta a entrare in una delle case di conforto, dove trascorrerà anni come schiava sessuale per i soldati. Il romanzo racconta la sua disumanizzazione in modo crudo, ma straordinariamente potente, con pagine intrise di sofferenza che lasciano un segno indelebile nel lettore. La vergogna, il dolore fisico e psicologico di Wang Di sono temi centrali che definiscono l'intero arco narrativo.

Oltre alla storia di Wang Di, il romanzo intreccia anche il percorso di Kevin, un adolescente della Singapore contemporanea. Quando scopre una verità sconvolgente legata al passato della sua famiglia, il suo incontro con Wang Di diventa simbolo di solitudine e segreti, portando alla luce verità sepolte da generazioni. La relazione tra Kevin e Wang Di, che si sviluppa lentamente, si rivela un potente strumento di redenzione e comprensione.

La struttura del romanzo si basa su due linee temporali parallele: una segue la giovinezza di Wang Di durante la guerra, l'altra racconta la vita di Kevin negli anni successivi. La scrittura di Jing-Jing Lee è elegante e raffinata, senza mai cadere nel melodramma, e riesce a trasmettere l'intensità emotiva della vicenda con una sensibilità straordinaria. La storia si concentra sul tema della vergogna, poiché le donne di conforto, dopo la guerra, non solo sono state vittime di abusi orribili, ma sono state anche etichettate come traditrici, allontanate dalla società per l'onta di aver "servito" il nemico.

La frase che meglio riassume il dramma di Wang Di è: “Fu allora che imparai che è possibile sparire anche senza andarsene”, un’affermazione che svela la sua lotta interiore, quella di annullarsi nel dolore, diventando invisibile persino a sé stessa.

Il finale del romanzo porta una parziale redenzione, poiché Kevin, grazie alla rivelazione della nonna, riesce a scoprire il passato oscuro della sua famiglia, e Wang Di, ormai anziana, trova finalmente la forza di raccontare la sua storia. L'incontro tra le due generazioni, tra la sofferenza di un passato lontano e la speranza di un futuro senza segreti, è il cuore del romanzo.

*Storia della nostra scomparsa* non è solo un racconto delle atrocità di un periodo storico, ma una riflessione sulla memoria, sull'importanza di raccontare storie che rischiano di essere dimenticate, e sulla liberazione che può scaturire dalla verità. Nonostante il dolore, il libro suggerisce che anche nel buio più profondo c'è spazio per una luce di speranza. Un romanzo che ci invita a riflettere su un capitolo oscuro della storia, ma che ci spinge anche a guardare al futuro con maggiore consapevolezza.

Jing-Jing Lee ci regala un'opera straordinaria, educativa e trasformativa, che non è facile dimenticare. Con questo libro, ci ricorda l’importanza di non dimenticare la storia, affinché le atrocità del passato non vengano mai ripetute. Un esordio potente, doloroso, ma estremamente importante.

Con “Casey” torniamo alla Nolan University e nella tanto amata Hockey House, dove la vita dei nostri ragazzi è sempre un mix di risate, complicità, sfide e colpi di scena. Questa volta al centro della storia troviamo Casey, il playboy della squadra, quello che vive di scherzi, PlayStation e avventure di una notte, convinto che i legami seri non facciano per lui. O meglio… convinto finché il destino non decide di metterlo alla prova.

Casey ha una dipendenza particolare: non dalle ragazze, ma dall’approvazione del suo amico James, che sembra sempre decidere al posto suo. Nessun sentimento, nessun legame. Ma tutto cambia quando incontra di nuovo Caroline, la ragazza che un anno prima lo aveva già fatto vacillare. Per lei era stato un momento indimenticabile, per lui solo “una volta e basta”. O almeno così credeva, perché questa volta Caroline non è più disposta a restare nell’ombra.

Tra loro l’alchimia è fortissima, eppure il cammino è pieno di ostacoli: incomprensioni, promesse mancate e un imprevisto che rischia di sconvolgere completamente le loro vite. I due protagonisti si troveranno davanti a scelte difficili, quelle che possono cambiare per sempre il futuro.

E proprio quando pensano di essere soli, scopriranno che la Hockey House è una vera famiglia, pronta a sostenere e a fare squadra nei momenti più complicati.

Katy Archer firma ancora una volta una storia capace di intrecciare leggerezza e profondità. La sua scrittura è scorrevole, diretta, capace di far sorridere con le scene goliardiche tra compagni, ma anche di emozionare con i momenti più intensi e delicati. “Casey” non è solo un romance sportivo: è un romanzo di crescita, di seconde possibilità e di amore che nasce quando meno te lo aspetti.

I personaggi sono autentici, con dubbi e contraddizioni tipiche dei vent’anni. Casey è il classico bad boy che deve imparare a guardarsi dentro, mentre Caroline conquista con la sua determinazione e la capacità di mettersi in gioco, anche quando rischia di farsi male. E poi ci sono i personaggi secondari, pronti a lasciare il segno—Asher in particolare si preannuncia il protagonista di una storia esplosiva che non vedo l’ora di leggere.

“Casey” è una lettura perfetta per chi ama gli sport romance pieni di tensione, passione e scelte difficili. Un libro che fa ridere, sospirare, arrabbiare e che, soprattutto, regala emozioni autentiche.

I've to say that I enjoyed every minute of it! Reflected in You' depicted Eva and Gideon's relationship as it was still developing and changing.

They had admitted to each other that they lovethey d each other and that their love was everything at this time. However, jealously and possessively entered into their daily lives to the point where they were unsure how to proceed.

THIS. BOOK. WAS. PERFECT. IN. EVERYTHING

Gideon Cross and Eva Tramell are one of my all-time favorite fictional pairings. It ware as simply amazing to watch a couple who have been so messed up but who determined to do all in their power to make their relationship work with every fiber of their beings and every corner of their hearts. Who was willing to go to any length for each other. Never giving up. To try once again, a And again, and again, and again, until they got it right, Together.

Simply stunning!!!!

Their attraction, desire, and need for one another are palpable. It's almost as though it's slipping off the page. It gets to you every time.

It's quite hot. Consuming. Riveting. Intoxicating.

But passion alone isn't enough to make a relationship work. They must learn to trust each other in order for their love to blossom correctly and healthily.

That is, after all, at the center of this work. Trust.

Yes, I admit it was occasionally frustrating to go through Gideon and Eva's concerns, hang-ups, and fuck-ups. But, despite the fact that some of them were nonsensical and absurd,

I empathized with both of them and understood everything they were feeling. It was sometimes difficult, but it was always understandable.

They were not flawless individuals. They were each hiding something. They both had a lot to learn about trusting each other, finding safety in each other, healing each other, saving each other... and, in the process, saving themselves.

But, no matter how messed up they were, they worked through EVERYTHING!!

Gideon embodies the complex, anguished, flawed, and secretive hero. But he melts my heart (and something else too!!)!!! that man is perfect in my eyes. Everything about his character appealed to me. Everything.

And we also learn a lot more about him- his secrets, his nightmares, how he became so wealthy, and how he felt when they first met. We discover a lot about him in this book, despite the fact that it is recounted exclusively from Eva's point of view.

Eva is also one of my favorite heroines. She, like Gideon, has severe flaws and is affected by her history. She had genuine doubts, jealousies, and concerns, yet I sympathized with them all and admired her spirit, dedication, and actions.

They were just so functional as a couple!! It was inspirational, heartwarming, and wonderful to watch them work so hard on their relationship, where no matter what went wrong, nothing could drive them apart.

This novel put my heart through the wringer. It caused it to run, flutter, melt, burn, freeze, drop, pound, and come to a halt... It both broke and healed my heart. I enjoyed every minute of it!!!

But let me warn you: Gideon will put your trust, patience, and faith in him to the ultimate test in this book. He asks for Eva's trust, but as a reader, I felt so deeply for her that it was MY trust that I was putting out there.

Ms. Day deserves serious praise for immersing me in the heroine's mindset. When you feel complete for what a character is going through, that's a sign of truly outstanding writing.

I love this series. I love these characters. I love the writing style. I love the story. I love the intensity of Gideon and Eva's love for each other. I love their passion. I love the development of the characters. I've loved everything about the Crossfire series from the beginning and this was another fantastic addition!!!!

Gideon and Eva's relationship is one that I feel so strongly about. I love their dynamic - they're two damaged souls who both make their share of mistakes, but who love each other with every fiber of their being, more than anything else in the world, and that love gives them the strength and courage to face their fears and work together for a healthier and stronger relationship and future.

The added bonus of Gideon's POV in this book was so exciting. The story is told from two perspectives and I felt that both sides added so much depth to the story at this point in the series.

I honestly have so much respect for the way she's handled the entire plot of the series so far. Everything she's written has helped to strengthen the story and the characters. I love that the core of this series revolves around the idea and effort to build a stronger relationship rather than destroy it. The angst and heartbreaking intensity come from how much you care and feel for these characters. Gideon and Eva are certainly not perfect people, but I feel like their flaws make them seem all the more real, and their love and the way they support each other is just beautiful.

Their journey to building a healthy relationship has never been easy, but the strength of the foundation of their unwavering love for each other has given them a foundation to not only build on but to fall back on. No matter what, their love remains strong. And that's what I love. It's a beautiful, intense, heartbreaking journey full of mistakes and failures, but also full of accomplishments and progress. It's passionate, compelling, and truly one of the best books I've ever read. I absolutely love this couple, I've loved every part of their story so far, and I can't wait to see what happens next for them.

I personally loved it. I totally loved it. Gideon and Eva continue to be one of my absolute favorite couples in books and I can't wait to hear more of their story!
