I'm on a roll with cozies this month and having fun reading them. I really enjoy the different settings and places too. This time I was whisked away to Edinburgh, where a sword, a murder and of course the mystery surrounding it all had me lost in sleuthing heaven.
I haven't read any other books in this series and lately I seem to be finding books out of order but that didn't take anything away from the story or the characters. It does make me want to go back and read the other installments though. Looks like more fun reading ahead.
I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
This book is proof of why I love cozy mysteries the best. You can usually start anywhere in the series, and not be confused. I jumped into book six of this series, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I wasn't lost, I love the characters, I loved the mystery, and I absolutely adore Sawdust and reading blurbs of his perspective. This was an all-around treat, and now I need to go back and read all of the other books preceding this one.
I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
Such a fun read. I love the quirkiness of DI Beauchamp and his team. This time around, there are two mysteries to solve, one being a cold case that Caius has been selected to delve into. The twists and surprises make this a quick read with fun characters and good storylines.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Other Half, but The In Crowd was more enjoyable. I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
Each book I read gets better and better. Absolutely love this series and can I just say... FINALLY! If you know, you know. If you don't, start with book one and binge read.
I love Delilah and Capone. They are a great sleuthing duo. Delilah's crew is great too and adds the perfect taste to the story. This mystery was a fun one.
I am so thankful to the author and NetGalley for the review copy. On to the next installment!
This was a very cute and very quick read. It reads more like a YA romance than a contemporary one despite the main characters being in their 20s. I didn't mind that aspect but some readers may not enjoy it.
I love the short chapters and the dual timelines. The story itself was sweet and overall I enjoyed this one.
I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started reading this one. This is really good one for Spooktober, especially for those who want a scary story, but also want a storyline.
Even though the story was okay, I just didn't love this one. Overall, I just couldn't get into it as a whole. I didn't really like either of the two main characters, and it just wasn't all that spooky for me.
I think others who are not seasoned horror readers may like this one more. I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
Absolutely LOVE this series. Every book is a delight, full of crazy shenanigans and chaos. Vero and Finlay are the perfect main characters and have me laughing often. This book was no different and I was here for it. I cannot wait for the next installment.
I sincerely appreciate the author and NetGalley for the review copy.
I enjoy stories with werewolves and was excited to receive a review copy of Cure. Most stories about werewolves and shapeshifters are similar. What I enjoyed most about Cure is that it's not. It has a unique perspective which was easy to fall into.
I love Luna. She is a great character. Her journey as she discovers who she is, what happened to her brother, and where her familial history fits makes for quick reading. There are some action scenes which added some fun for me too. I do love me some action scenes.
Overall, a well-rounded story with good writing and characters. Perfect for those Spooktober lists. I sincerely appreciate the author and Books Forward for sharing this story with me.
I was really looking forward to this one as I've enjoyed the author's previous works. This read more like a YA suspense/thriller than anything else. I typically enjoy YA but while this one was enjoyable, it wasn't great.
I think the fact that they were supposed to be college students but acted more like high schoolers was the biggest let down for me. Not to mention, this kind of story has been done plenty of times before so the outcome was predictable for me.
Overall not a bad story and for the most part I did enjoy it. I sincerely appreciate NetGalley for the review copy.
This was a pretty quick read, and for the most part enjoyable. I figured out early on, once the character was first introduced, who the murderer was. That really didn't take away from the story as a whole and I still ended up enjoying it.
I sincerely appreciate the review of copy from NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
There is a reason this author is one of my favorites. His writing is so flawless and makes reading a delight.
Have you ever wondered what goes on in your neighborhood at night? When doors close and people settle in for the night. When the world becomes a mysterious place, and all sorts of weird and odd happenings commence. In the morning there are remnants of things gone by which tickle the imagination and neighbor nosiness.
I love how quirky the two main characters are and how their friendship just...is. You have to read this to understand what I mean by that. I want a neighbor like this LOL. Big Dave is eccentric and he's loveable and frustrating at the same time. I get major Kramer vibes from him and I LOVED it. His counterpart, Seff, is a writer and is more logical and rational in his behavior. It makes for an interesting and fun dynamic.
The little mysteries that surround their neighborhood gave me pause and had me wondering what goes on around me at night. This was the most enjoyable part for me and added so much to the book overall.
I absolutely love the format with the different stories that surround and connect the main one with Big Dave and Seff. It flowed well and made for a fast read.
Keep an eye out for this one. It releases on March 4, 2025 and is well worth the snag. I sincerely appreciate Scott Semegran for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
What an absolutely charming and fun read! Absolutely perfect for Spooktober, especially for people who don't like gory but want a little bit of spooky.
Bless Your Heart is well-written and the characters are great too. I love when multiple POVs are done as seamlessly as this is. It makes for an easy read, one that I finished in two days.
I didn't realize this would be a series when I received this one, and I am excited for it. Give me more of the Evans women! Thank you Minotaur Books for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
This wasn't quite what I expected, but that isn't a bad thing. In a Dark Mirror is more psychological than anything else and I really enjoyed it.
Maddie and Lana are very interesting characters, both loveable and yet not. They definitely give mixed feelings but the author does well with that. I'm also a lover of mixed POVs and the way this switches back and forth was perfect for me and flowed well.
Definitely a good Spooktober read, especially for those who don't like scary but like a little creepy and eerie. I sincerely appreciate Lavender Public Relations and the author for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I've read other books by this author and enjoyed them so was excited to start a new series with a female lead. While, for the most part, I liked Merit she was also annoying. I could have done without her “cougar” references, and for me they didn't add anything to the story.
I did enjoy the legal aspects of this one but it didn't give me the thrill I was looking for. At times it felt like I was reading a textbook as it went into a lot of detail. I skipped over a lot of that.
The story itself was interesting and I liked the splashes of drama and danger that were thrown in. Overall, not a bad read but wasn't a favorite for me either.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. The story starts a tad slow, but picks up pretty quickly. The slower start is necessary to lay the groundwork for the adventures to come, so that didn't take any enjoyment away as a whole.
While a tad predictable and unbelievable in spots, this still made for a fun mystery with some thrills and chills thrown in. I haven't read a mystery before with the use of post-it notes as a means of communicating, and actually liked this part.
CJ is frustrating and loveable. I wanted to hug and smack him at the same time LOL. Also enjoyed his brother and hodgepodge crew. Together they mesh well.
All-in-all, this is a good one for those who like a mystery with a little razzle dazzle thrown in. The ending goes fast and the pages go flying by. Short chapters make this one easy to get lost in. This releases on August 1, 2024. Mark those calendars and enjoy the ride.
I sincerely appreciate the author for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
OK...just wow. What a refreshing and invigorating journey! It has been a while since I have been honored to read and review a book like this. I was captivated from beginning to end, and completely engrossed in the characters and the story.
The best part? The concentration on the characters, their growth as individuals and as a whole, and the the journey they share. I haven't read such a well-rounded book in a long time. I love that I not only got to travel along with the characters, but also got to share in their hurts, triumphs, grief and victories.
This was like sitting down with The Lord of the Rings, while drinking in some Narnia and adding just a splash of Harry Potter. My inner YA was definitely a happy camper.
I read all across the spectrum, but sometimes a break from romance-centered fantasy is needed. This definitely fits the bill for those who want the same, and want a story where the characters' journey, in all aspects, are the focal point.
I highly recommend this one, especially for readers who love action, adventure, found families, character growth and a darker undertone. Be ready for some tears too. There are a couple of parts ... let's just say my heart hurt and I needed tissue ... lots of tissue.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the author for reaching out and sharing this amazing journey with me. These opinions are strictly my own and have not been influenced in any way.
