So this is where the journey to read the Mignolaverse starts. We get introduced to the Hellboy character and a lot of other major players in this crazy universe. The stories collected in this book are the following:
-Seed of Destruction
-The Wolves of Saint August
-The Chained Coffin
-Wake the Devil
-Almost Colossus
If you have an interest in the occult, action, cool art, WW2, vampires, wolves or/and nazi bad guys then look no further than this book to start a wonderful adventure full of these crazy things. The Mignolaverse is very big, so there is a lot of fun ahead!
This book contains everything you could expect from a story like this. Although this is one of the well-known classics, I had not read it yet. I am very happy that I have done so now.
The story follows Jim Hawkins who lives with his mother in the “Admiral Benbow” inn in a seaside town. When pirate Bill, who is a client at the inn, leaves a treasure map after his death, Jim sets off on an adventure to find the treasure. It is written in short chapters and after each chapter you want to know what Stevenson has in store for Hawkins and co. Because of the interesting story and the short chapters I read this fairly quickly.
If you have not yet become acquainted with this classic, it is highly recommended.
This is a great story. It has a legendary status in the manga world and rightfully so. Our main character Light Yagami finds a notebook (of death) belonging to Ryuk the shinigami (a demon of some sorts). Basically, if you write a name in it, that person will die. A character named only as L has been assigned to stop him.
The story made me think about good and evil. What would you do if you found yourself in a situation like Light? There are a lot of twists and turns that make the story interesting and exciting to read. The art is just like all the other manga I have read. It doesn't stand out like Vagabond, but it isn't bad either. As far as I know this edition of the manga has a bigger page size and contains two volumes in one book. The sides of the paper are black, it's a beautiful edition.
Even for people that normally don't read manga I would recommend this story.
