Hard-boiled former secret agent thriller.   It's the same four core characters on a new mission usually somewhere exotic.

It is a standard hard-boiled former cop adventure story.  It is one of a series about John Corey.  They all read pretty much the same.  Medium to fast-paced.  It's a fun read if you like that sort of read.

Best to read the whole series to see character development
