This is the first full novel I believe I’ve ever read, at 23, figured it’d be best to start with a “classic” (I did get halfway through Dante’s Inferno before quitting cause of it’s denseness lmao).

It’s an interesting book, read it over the course of like 2 months, which I think helped with getting into the mind of Holden Caulfield. He’s a weird character, extremely relatable in a lot of ways but he’s also extremely annoying and unlikeable, he spends practically the entire book whining about meaningless shit, he repeats things over and over and over again, he’s a dick to almost every single person he talks to, and yet in spite of all his flaws I still found myself caring about what happens to him and sympathizing with his life.

I think the book really picks up in the last few chapters, starting with Holden visiting his sister at home, up to him watching her on a carousel in the rain. The book completely falls apart not one page later tho! Seriously what a fucking joke of an ending, I’m extremely underwhelmed and while I get the mundanity is the point it still left me massively unsatisfied.

Overall I really did enjoy my time reading this, and it’s inspired me to read more going forward.
