What an amazing exploration of grief, and suffering, and the persistence of love, and the trap that is hate and regret.

While marketed as a science fiction story, this is more like "baby's first Lovecraftian horror." The first half is intrigue and character establishment, the second half is bizarre eldritch horror. The novel's saving grace is that the prose is plain and it's not over-long, so it's a very easy read. That said, this could have been written as a short story and lost nothing.
