A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

2024 • 647 Readers • 502 pages 4.1

Why this book?

The story of Frances Nolan in early 20th century Brooklyn had me mesmerized and invested immediately. Following the events of her life and her families life from ages 11-17, Frances is forced to grow up quickly, and also shares some incredible life wisdom along the way. Beautifully written classic.

To Kill a Mockingbird

1960 • 5,389 Readers • 323 pages 4.2

Why this book?

While this was essential reading during my own coming of age, it very quickly became a top five lifetime book for me. The point of view for some hard hitting topics (systemic racism, the justice system, growing up, etc) from Scout Finch created a story for me that still sits with me years later. Provides a reminder of taking a new perspective is always a learning moment.
