Cover and prologue were awesome. But the story just felt meh and some illogical moves by characters. If I want to protect a God, why go to a godkiller. If I need to travel fast to a city, why seek out a group to go with and not go alone as I am a knight and already traveled to one city alone. 4 povs in a 300 page novel that are interlaced does not stand up well. Would much have rather one pov that goes in depth would be much better.
Was expecting more romance. Mostly historical fantasy and I'm just not feeling historical fiction currently. Maybe pick up at another time.
Just not feeling it right now. Too many villians and Nash is a little too overprotective for my tastes.
I like the history but the actual story was tedious. Insta love is not my thing and felt I'd be better served reading a non fiction about Shanghai in this time period. Plus I rather read a book about not so good looking ppl using their smarts to survive then beautiful ppl using their beauty/smarts to survive. Ymmv but I always cringe when main characters go on about their own beauty.
Felt a bit cringe. Also shouldn't read a book where main characters are in my career field because oh boy there was some stuff there that made me cringe more. Obviously not an author for me.
Idk, young adult isn't much my thing. While I like the mystery aspects and ghosts. I did not like the characters at all. Or the romances building up...
I think this author is not for me. Her writing is not good. And I've read some really good fanro lately and this felt like a bad copy. Also didn't like the narrator for audiobook. Those male voices made me cringe a bit.
Bored, hard to follow. I wanted to try 100 books to read in lifetime but I think some books I'm just not interested in and this is one. Don't want to continue to force myself to read something I don't like.
Long winded. One character kept hanging out with evil character that killed her brother. Evil character keeps doing evil things and no one does anything about it.
Tried a second time to no avail. Tired of Molly. Tired of no assassin stuff happening. Tired of the moaning and self centered thoughts of Fitz. I'll just have to accept unlike most ppl this series is just not for me. It lacks logic in how people act. And sadly I bought the whole series that now need to find a new home sigh.
Hmm not interested in love story between 12 year Olds. The writing felt clunky and boring. May try another time.
I'm trying to expand my reading into other genres. I love history but haven't had much luck with historical fiction so far. This is one where I just couldn't get along with the writing style. Things seemed to be skipped over and I just couldn't get into it.
Eye roll. Do I believe this bloke innocent, nope. Would some guy who knew these guys were convicted of murder and only known them for 12 hours really leave them with his wife and kids.
Main character is extremely hateful. Also why would you stay in a job because you hate a guy so much. Idk, main character annoyed me and seemed super childish and couldn't continue.
Had a hard time getting into it. Didn't like how women were portrayed and how young they were when they got married....just not interested enough to continue on.
Just not realistic. The nature writing was good but the rest nah. Also the feeling of being too ya for me.
Too many coincidences of being in neighbors apartment when nazis came and then the boarding house they chose is owned by lady who part of resistant. Eva being able to do a decent forgery without practice or making a mistake. The mother is annoying... instead of caring about her duaghter and the situation she is in, she makes a scene on the street and wants to stay in Paris as fugitives. Just wasn't hitting the believability factor for me which I prefer in my historical fiction.
Henley is annoying and rude... also another negative is things like gender is a social construct. Okay, well your political views are showing author. But nail in coffin is heroine. If you don't like one of the leads in a romance, not much worth reading unless you're hate reading.
Wasn't what I was expecting. More about eccentric people in Savannah Georgia than actually about the crime.
Don't know if it's my mood or just lost interest. It's hard when series goes on so long. They tend to get repetitive which is what I found this one was. I might continue at a later date but currently having a hard time picking it up.
This is a case of a book just being too political for me. Read to escape and not have to listen to someone else's political views.
Not really any likeable characters. I don't think calling half the country (republicans) ugly is very advisable. Why people think Republicans are hillbillies and don't read is beyond me. Normal suburban working mom with a stem bachelor degree here and I read plenty. Authors should keep their opinions about politics out of their books. This author has put herself on my never read another book from this author list. Sad that this list keeps growing due to authors unable to keep political opinions out of their books. So much hate for differing views.
