When I first read this I /hated/ Laurent - he was so mean! Re-reading it I loved him and thought everything he did was valid. I really enjoy this series but this book is HARD to get through - the flogging scene and the scene in the gardens were REALLY tough to get through both times :( and sweet nicaise :(
