DNF: Audiobook review
What do you think the reaction would have been if after the season 4 of Friends
the entire cast was replaced by Urkel who played all the characters?
Cherry Blossom Girls audiobooks 1 to 4 was voiced and recorded by Soundbooth Theater cast who did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life. Each character had a distinctive voice.
Cherry Blossom Girls audiobook 5 was recorded solely by P.J. Ochlan at Tantor Media. What a disappointment!!!! After listening to the previous book this was unbearable. Gave up after 5 minutes.
The author Harmon Cooper is having other audiobooks published by Soundbooth Theater. I wish he had stayed with them for the rest of the Cherry Blossom Girls series.
I gave this book 3 stars because it is a fast easy read but it just isn't a page turner. The characters, settings and events reminded me of other books where those elements were presented in greater depth creating making me care more about the outcome.
Will I read the next book in the series? mmmm, maybe, only because of the reviews being better than this novel.
This is the first time I have read this book. It's also the first time I have read a book by Stephen King.
WOW!!!!
I don't know what I was expecting exactly, maybe a mix of World War Z and a horror story.
The Stand is neither of those things. It is something greater and better.
The characters are unique and vivid. Too many book present characters that are rooted and no matter the circumstances they don't change. That is not the case here. The characters evolve, you feel their pain and triumphs.
I will definitely be reading more Stephen King books in the future.
I decided to add this book to my reading list based on the fact it won a Hugo Award in 2016 and its sequel; The Obelisk Gate was nominated won for the same award in 2017.
The story is well written. The world and atmosphere were interesting.
Why am I giving a 3-star rating?
I never became fully invested in the characters. Overall the story was morose, and it didn't have a satisfying ending.
Did I enjoy the book enough to read the sequel? Maybe.
An interesting take on a story we all know but from the point of view of people on the other side. Tradition, honour, duty, respect, morality are all themes examined in this book which give it a depth not found in the traditional; rah-rah rebellion/new republic, books. What does it mean to live inside the bubble? What happens when you realize the bubble isn't what you thought it was, what do you do, and how does it change you?
Great read, fast easy read.
I guess the book is considered to be in the young young adult category because the romance, which is the central thread, is family friendly and clean. The deeper themes make this a very enjoyable adult read.
The first book was great. This book is just disappointing.
Lots of stuff happens, some people mature, some people hookup, some people die but the story doesn't progress. Magi and group go on a quest and find nothing. Major goes to war, meets the Northmen and others some of whom die. Inquisitor loses faraway meaningless city and accepts payment for future service.
