A very interesting though tough read. A beautiful, complicated poem that requires reading of the footnotes to understand it at all. Dante has weaved many characters and events/places that would be impossible for the average reader to comprehend without help. He hits the mark with his creative states of purgatory and hell.
Decided to try this book based upon a reviewers description it was “Grisham like”. The book, an impressive achievement for a debut by Glenn Ogura, was a fast enjoyable read. The author seems to have the insight/background in the tech field and brought the business environment in Silicon Valley to light without technical terms etc. He showed good skill at character development and the story before the surprising ending, was very believable. Bravo!
I'm a Nesbo fan and this was dark as usual. I think the best thing about the book was the pacing. It was an exceptionally quick read with a couple of unexpected twists.
No shortage of twists and turns in this story! A strong voiced, unpredictable protagonist tells her life story and all its ups and downs.
It was excellent character development and I needed to find out what would happen. my only complaint was that I didn't get the sense of place that I thought I would as it traded on the decline of the manufacturing belt.
After enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow, I grabbed this one which was his first book. His style of writing is completely engaging. The way he sketches characters is very effective. I wish he'd write more....
An inside look at one of the worlds most fascinating innovators. I didn't realize just how forward thinking Musk is, of course, as the book reveals he can be ‘awkward' and downright mean. I liked the way the author told the story and look forward to seeing what Musk's next big idea is. It also reinforces the idea to Dream Big.
Better than i expected. a quick read but way too wordy, no need, in my opinion to describe flat, passing characters.
A brilliant point of view and plot (I wish I'd of thought of it!). This is McEwan at his best, he may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think he is both original and entertaining. Some may not fully appreciate his sarcastic commentary on our culture but it resonates with this reader.
Hesitated with only a 3 star rating for Price's new novel but it was just too slowly paced. It also seems like a bunch of individual stories. I also felt, though at times he nailed it, that he over dis-functionalized (if that's a word) a NYC detective's existence.
Re-read this classic examination of death and dying. A reflective read sure to cause some to reassess.
A captivating read. could not wait to see what happened to both the kid and the Judge. He paints a very real picture and the courtroom/legal detail was perfect and realistic. My only complaint was that the opening ‘chapter' was much too long and way too much backstory before the real story begins in part two.
A masterpiece that deals with a disturbing subject. Nabokov masterfully paints a realistic portrait of a truly deranged person and their twisted thoughts and rationalization.
Excellent plot and execution by a master! The way she builds the tension is simply awe inspiring.
This was a re-read for me and I'm glad i re-visited it. A must read
Nice fast paced read thru a good plot. Barton did not add anything unnecessary to moving the story along which I appreciated. The alternating and at times unreliable POV was handled nicely.
