2.5 stars
The lowest rating I've given any of the after books. This book could've been half the size of what it is, with all the meaningless drama between Hardin and Tessa. Hardin was so infuriating in this book and annoying. He did get his redmption arc, in the last 100 pages of the book.
I'm glad Tessa is standing up for herself this time around.
2.5 stars.
What a rollercoaster. When I first looked the book up on goodreads I wondered why it had such a low rating. Now I know why.
From what I gather this book is the first work under the authors name and from the writing it's quite clear. It feels like it's some bad wattpad fanfiction written by a 12-year old, the amount of caps-lock used in the book couldn't be counted on two hands. And it got so annoying the further in you read.
We're supposed to be in the heads of 14-15 year olds, but it feels much younger. I get every person is different, but I've never know anyone, who has this mindset the female protagonists have. I feel like she couldn't have a single though, without it going OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE DOING THIS - WHY AM I DOING THIS. Every few seconds.
Can I shortly mention the sex scenes?
As some who reads erotic fiction, those scenes.. Were the most awkward thing ever. I cringed at every one of those scenes.
I think I lost a brain cell or two while reading. But the book was so cringe, I couldn't put it down.
I was so ecstatic to find out a manga was being made for one of my favourite JRPGs out there. But what happened to the manga is the same thing, that happens to books being made into movies.. It's just reversed here. As someone who's played the game before I read this, I know a lot of things have been put aside for it to be able to be a manga. So the story in the manga is way more fast-paced than in the game itself.
Even so, if you're looking for a manga/story with a kick-ass heroine and a good storyline, give it a go and if you enjoyed the manga, but feel like you're missing plotholes etc. give the game a go. It's such a masterwork, from music to story and scenery.
A sweet lovestory about two former lovers finding together again after years apart.
We follow the protagonist, Arabella Darlington - Duchess of Hawthorne, newly widowed and wanting to escape London after a not-so-nice experience with her late husbands nephew.
What I liked:
The romance
A sweet lovestory between our protagonists Arabella and Raymond. Even if they've spend the last 10 years apart, they still remember each others quirks from before then. Also a very well written romance. I could really feel the chemistry between the two of them.
The friendships
I really liked how both Raymond's friend and Arabella's best friend came together in support.
The build-up
I really liked how Christy English kept the suspense of where Arabella would end up, through the book.
If you're new to the Academic Art of Riding, I suggest you have the basic knowledge of the art before reading this book. The beginning of the book is easy to understand but the further in you go, the harder it becomes. But alas, depends on how far you are in your schooling. As someone who's still working with versade and travers, I found the end of the book hard to understand; But it's still an interesting read.
