Thank you so much to Whimsy Words PR for providing me with an ARC of 'Burn Her They Said'. This is my honest, voluntary review.

Some flames are lit by revenge, but they rarely stop there.

'Burn Her They Said' is one of those dark romances that immediately pulls you into a world where love, revenge, and obsession become impossible to separate. Cherish Wright delivers an emotionally charged story filled with damaged characters, dangerous chemistry, and enough suspense to keep the pages turning long into the night.

One of the novel's greatest strengths is Wright's writing style. It is fluid, immersive, and packed with emotion without ever feeling overwhelming. Every conversation carries meaning, while the characters' inner thoughts reveal the pain, vulnerability, and determination hidden beneath their hard exteriors. The storytelling makes it easy to become completely invested in their journey.

The pacing is carefully balanced. Rather than rushing from one dramatic moment to the next, the story allows the tension to simmer, making every revelation feel well deserved. The structure steadily uncovers new layers of the plot, blending romance, mystery, and suspense into a gripping reading experience. Just when everything seems to make sense, another twist changes the direction of the story.

The characters are wonderfully complex. Their flaws make them believable, their motivations understandable, and their morally grey nature keeps you questioning every decision they make. The emotional push and pull between them creates intense chemistry that never overshadows the darker themes of grief, betrayal, trust, and revenge.

What impressed me most was how naturally the emotional storyline and the suspenseful plot complement one another. Neither element dominates the other, creating a story that feels complete from beginning to end. Every secret uncovered raises the stakes, while every emotional moment carries genuine weight.

Cherish Wright has written a captivating dark romance that balances emotional depth with suspense, unexpected twists, and unforgettable characters. Readers who enjoy morally grey protagonists, slow-burning tension, and stories where love and revenge collide will find plenty to enjoy in 'Burn Her They Said'.

When Love Becomes the Darkest Curse

There are stories that slowly wrap around you like a thick blanket of sea mist, making it impossible to tell where reality ends and nightmares begin. A Fate Worse Than Drowning is exactly that kind of novel.

Sarah L. Hawthorn creates an unforgettable gothic atmosphere from the very first pages. The lonely lighthouse, the crashing waves, the constant feeling of isolation, and the ever-present darkness make the setting feel like a character of its own. Every chapter carries an unsettling sense of dread that quietly lingers beneath the surface, making it impossible to fully relax.

The writing style is beautifully immersive. Rich without becoming overwhelming, descriptive without slowing the story down, it perfectly balances lyrical prose with emotional tension. The pacing is deliberately measured, allowing both the mystery and the characters to unfold naturally while steadily increasing the feeling that something terrible is waiting just beyond the next page.

Elle is a fascinating morally grey protagonist whose choices are driven by fierce love, fear, and desperation. She isn't always easy to like, but she is endlessly compelling to follow. Liney provides a wonderful contrast, bringing warmth, hope, and vulnerability to the story while slowly discovering that the truth can be far more dangerous than ignorance. Their complicated sisterly bond forms the emotional heart of the novel and gives the story far more depth than its supernatural premise alone.

The plot weaves together gothic horror, historical fantasy, folklore, and psychological tension into a story filled with impossible choices and haunting consequences. Rather than relying on constant action, it builds suspense through atmosphere, emotional conflict, and the weight of every decision. The mystery unfolds naturally, rewarding patience without ever revealing its hand too soon.

A Fate Worse Than Drowning is a beautifully haunting debut that explores how far someone is willing to go to protect the people they love, and what happens when devotion slowly transforms into obsession. While the slower pacing occasionally softened the momentum, the unforgettable atmosphere and emotionally layered characters made this a captivating reading experience from beginning to end.

The Woman Behind the Legend

Cleopatra is one of history's most famous women, yet her story has often been told through the voices of men. In 'Cleopatra', Saara El-Arifi strips away centuries of myths and accusations to reveal a ruler, mother, strategist, and woman determined to shape her own destiny.

One of the greatest strengths of this novel is El-Arifi's writing. Her prose is vivid and atmospheric, bringing ancient Egypt to life with remarkable ease. Palaces, temples, political intrigue, and moments of personal vulnerability all feel tangible on the page. The storytelling carries a lyrical quality that adds depth to both the setting and the emotional journey of its characters.

Rather than focusing solely on the well known romances that have defined Cleopatra's reputation for centuries, this novel explores the immense pressures of leadership, family loyalty, and survival. Cleopatra emerges as a complex and compelling figure whose intelligence and determination shine throughout the story.

The pacing is deliberate, allowing relationships, political tensions, and personal struggles to develop naturally. At times the slower pace may not appeal to readers looking for constant action, but it gives the narrative space to breathe and adds weight to the emotional moments.

This is not a story about a legendary queen's downfall. It is a story about a woman reclaiming her voice from history itself. Richly researched, emotionally engaging, and beautifully written, 'Cleopatra' offers a fascinating perspective on one of history's most misunderstood rulers.

A Summer Shadow That Never Truly Fades

Some stories feel like a time capsule, and this one certainly does.

'I Know What You Did Last Summer' delivers a suspenseful premise that still holds appeal decades after its original publication. Four teenagers share a terrible secret after a tragic accident, only to discover that someone knows what happened and is determined to make them pay. The growing sense of unease keeps the pages turning, especially during the first half of the novel.

What stands out most is the atmosphere. Lois Duncan creates a feeling of paranoia and guilt that follows the characters wherever they go. The fear of being exposed becomes just as important as the mystery itself, and that psychological tension gives the story its strongest moments.

At the same time, the novel shows its age. Readers familiar with modern thrillers may find the pacing slower and the suspense less intense than expected. The characters are interesting enough to follow, but they never felt as deeply developed as hoped, which made it harder to become fully emotionally invested in their fate.

The mystery itself remains engaging, though some of the twists and revelations feel more straightforward by today's standards. Even so, there is a certain charm in reading one of the books that helped shape the young adult suspense genre.

While it was not a standout thriller, it was still an enjoyable read that offers a glimpse into the roots of teen suspense. A solid classic that delivers intrigue, guilt, and mystery, even if it does not hit as hard as many contemporary thrillers.

When revenge turns inward

Four friends bound by loss, loyalty, and an unspoken hunger for justice find themselves trapped in a psychological spiral that never loosens its grip. In 'You Girls Play Nice', K.D. Aldyn builds a tense atmosphere where grief slowly mutates into something far more volatile.

What begins as a private act of catharsis during a girls night quickly evolves into a chilling chain of events that blurs imagination and reality. The strength of the story lies in its shifting suspicion. Every friend becomes both victim and possible culprit, and the emotional pressure inside the group tightens with every new murder that mirrors their shared fantasies.

The courtroom aftermath sets the tone for a story driven by injustice and moral unraveling, where the need for control replaces reason. As secrets surface and trust fractures, the narrative leans heavily into psychological tension, asking not only who is responsible, but what grief is capable of creating when it is left to ferment unchecked.

The pacing steadily escalates, drawing the reader deeper into paranoia and doubt until the final pages refuse to offer easy certainty.

Behind Every Closed Door

From the very first pages, The Secret Attic creates an unsettling atmosphere that seeps into every corner of the story. An inheritance that feels more like a punishment than a gift, a mother-in-law whose influence lingers long after death, and a house overflowing with secrets combine to create a mystery that constantly hints that something is deeply wrong.

The strongest aspect of this novel is undoubtedly its atmosphere. The sprawling estate feels alive in the most uncomfortable way. Dolls watching from dark corners, crows leaving strange gifts, rooms packed with decades of hoarded possessions, and ivy creeping across the house all contribute to a growing sense of unease. Chelsea Conradt excels at making ordinary objects feel threatening, turning clutter into clues and silence into suspicion.

Addison is an easy protagonist to root for. While sorting through Barb's belongings, she finds herself uncovering far more than family secrets. As the mystery surrounding Cassidy Warren begins to unfold, the tension steadily grows. At the same time, Luke's increasingly unsettling behavior adds another layer of uncertainty. The question is no longer what Barb was hiding, but who can still be trusted.

The novel shines most when exploring the toxic bonds that can exist within families. Grief, manipulation, obsession, and control weave through the story, creating a psychological edge that often proves more compelling than the mystery itself.

Unfortunately, the pacing occasionally struggles to maintain momentum. Some sections feel repetitive as Addison continues digging through Barb's possessions, and several reveals become predictable before they arrive. While the ending provides answers, it never fully reaches the emotional impact the build-up seemed to promise.

Even so, The Secret Attic remains an engaging psychological mystery filled with gothic undertones, family secrets, and a persistent feeling of dread. The house may be overflowing with clutter, but buried beneath it lies a story that keeps the pages turning.

Echoes Beneath the Surface

‘It’s not her’ pulls everything tight from the very first unsettling moment and refuses to let go. What starts as a serene lakeside escape fractures into something far more disturbing when Courtney Gray is confronted with an unimaginable scene that immediately shifts the story into a web of grief, suspicion and buried family history.

Mary Kubica builds tension in layers, slowly peeling back the illusion of a stable family and a quiet town. Every revelation feels carefully placed, never rushed, and always slightly unsettling. The strength of the story lies in how trust constantly shifts, not only between characters but also between perception and truth. Nothing stays solid for long, and that uncertainty becomes the driving force of the narrative.

The missing child element adds an immediate emotional weight, while the surrounding secrets of both family and community deepen the psychological pressure. The pacing leans into unease rather than shock, creating a steady pull rather than explosive twists, which fits the tone of the story well.

The resolution brings clarity, but not comfort, leaving behind that lingering discomfort Kubica does so well.

A tense and atmospheric psychological thriller that keeps the mind working long after the final page.

The Smallest Heart Steals the Biggest Space

Before the darkness. Before the danger. Before the obsession.

There was Ricky.

'Watch Over Me' may be a prequel novella to the Watched in Darkness series, but it stands beautifully on its own as a heartwarming, hilarious, and emotional story about found family, healing, and the chaos one tiny raccoon can create.

Luna Foster has dedicated her life to rescuing animals through Sage & Summit Wildlife Sanctuary. She has survived heartbreak, loss, and challenges that would make most people walk away. Yet nothing prepares her for Ricky, a fragile orphaned raccoon who arrives needing constant care and immediately claims a permanent place in both her home and her heart.

V.E. Huntley perfectly balances humor and emotion throughout this novella. One moment brings laughter because of Ricky's endless antics and complete lack of boundaries. The next delivers a touching scene that highlights the power of love, connection, and the family we build along the way.

Ricky completely steals the spotlight. His personality jumps off the page, making it impossible not to adore him. The bond that develops between Luna, her friends, and this mischievous little raccoon feels genuine, heartwarming, and wonderfully chaotic.

For readers already familiar with the Watched in Darkness series, this story adds beautiful depth to the world and its characters. There is something bittersweet about seeing these moments of happiness while knowing the darkness waiting beyond the horizon. It makes every smile, every laugh, and every moment of peace feel even more precious.

The pacing flows effortlessly, allowing the emotional moments to breathe while keeping the story engaging from beginning to end. Even as a novella, it feels complete and deeply satisfying.

'Watch Over Me' is a love letter to found family, second chances, and the animals that find their way into our hearts when we need them most. Sweet, funny, emotional, and impossible to forget.

A Bargain Lit in Ash and Starlight

‘The Spark that Ignites’ reads like a romantasy that starts with a quiet ache and then steadily tightens its grip. Beneath the romance, there is the pull of something larger: magic with consequences, fate pressing in from the edges, and that constant sense that every choice is already being tallied by the world itself.

What pulled me in most was the emotional intensity layered under the fantasy elements. The connection at the center does not feel like an easy sweep into love. It feels contested, wary, and charged with the kind of longing that comes from two people carrying damage they do not know how to name out loud. The tension has a sharp psychological edge, where trust becomes a risk, desire becomes a weakness, and the wrong confession could ruin everything.

The structure and pacing did a lot of the heavy lifting for me. The build is patient, but not slow. It moves in deliberate steps, escalating from curiosity to compulsion, then into that point where the story feels like it can only end in surrender or fallout. I loved how the stakes grow alongside the relationship, so the romance never floats separately from the plot. A few beats felt familiar, and I occasionally wished for a touch more space in certain moments to sit with the aftermath, but the story kept pulling me forward anyway.

By the end, it felt like watching a small flame become something you can no longer cup safely in your hands. Some sparks are not meant to be controlled, only survived.

A storm is not the only thing closing in, as fear begins to blur the line between hunter and hunted.

‘The Storm Reaper’ pulls the reader straight into a suffocating atmosphere where danger feels constant and silence is never truly empty. The pacing builds steadily, layering tension through shifting perceptions and unsettling discoveries that keep the ground beneath the story unstable.

What stands out most is the psychological pressure woven through the narrative. Nothing feels entirely secure, not even the protagonist’s own understanding of what is real. The story thrives on that uncertainty, letting paranoia and instinct clash in a way that keeps the tension tight without relying on constant action.

While some sections lean more into atmosphere than progression, the slow burn intensity ultimately pays off in moments where everything tightens at once. The balance between revelation and restraint gives the story its grip.

A tense, immersive thriller that lingers in the mind long after the final page, like the quiet after a storm that never fully feels safe again.

Caught Between Destiny and Danger

Some stories pull you in with action. Others with romance. 'Wild Mate' succeeds because it combines both while wrapping them in layers of mystery, uncertainty, and emotional tension.

From the moment the story begins, there is a lingering sense that nothing is quite what it seems. Secrets hide beneath every interaction, and the deeper the story ventures into its magical world, the more questions arise. The academy setting provides a fascinating backdrop where alliances shift, trust becomes fragile, and danger constantly lurks just out of sight.

What made this story particularly engaging was the emotional conflict woven throughout the narrative. Fate may offer answers, but it also creates complications. Relationships are tested, loyalties are questioned, and every revelation seems to carry consequences. The romantic tension builds steadily, never overshadowing the larger story but instead strengthening it.

The pacing occasionally slows during the worldbuilding, yet those quieter moments allow the characters and their struggles to take center stage. As the danger escalates, the chapters become increasingly difficult to put down.

By the final pages, the story leaves behind as many emotions as answers. Curiosity, anticipation, and that familiar feeling of not quite being ready to leave the world behind.

Some destinies arrive like a whisper. Others leave claw marks on your heart.

Where restraint starts to crack

‘Doctor’s Bossy Match’ thrives on a tension that is never fully allowed to explode, and that is exactly what makes it so compelling. A doctor who has built his entire career on rules and control is suddenly confronted with the exact opposite: Regan.

Regan is not subtle, not careful, and certainly not someone who fits neatly into expectations. She is a disruption in a life built on order, and that contrast is present in every interaction between them. What begins as irritation and professional responsibility slowly shifts into something far more dangerous: attention that lingers, even when it should not.

What stands out most is the constant internal struggle. He knows what is at stake, he repeats it to himself, he tries to maintain distance, yet his actions begin to betray him long before his thoughts do. Regan is not a passive counterpart in this dynamic either. She actively challenges, provokes, and tests boundaries, while still keeping parts of herself carefully hidden beneath her confidence.

The hospital setting and its politics add another layer of pressure. There is tension not only between them, but also surrounding them, making every decision feel like it carries weight and consequence.

What lingers most is not what happens, but what almost happens. That fragile space where control slowly starts to blur into surrender, without either of them fully admitting it.

A story about rules that hold firm… until someone decides they might not be unbreakable after all.

Sometimes it is not love that is dangerous, but the moment you stop walking away.

A house filled with grief, hunger, and ghosts that refuse to stay buried

‘Bone of My Bone’ feels like stepping into a crumbling gothic nightmare where every hallway whispers secrets and every page carries a quiet sense of dread. Bone of My Bone by Johana van Veen slowly pulls the reader into a dark and suffocating atmosphere filled with obsession, decay, and family wounds that never truly healed.

The strongest part of this story is undoubtedly its atmosphere. The writing is vivid, haunting, and beautifully unsettling, creating a constant feeling that something terrible is lurking just beneath the surface. The house itself almost becomes a character, alive with grief and memories that cling to every room. The gothic elements are rich and immersive, and the psychological tension grows stronger with every chapter.

The pacing, however, feels uneven at times. Some sections are incredibly gripping and emotionally sharp, while others move a little too slowly, causing the tension to lose momentum here and there. A few scenes also felt repetitive in their emotional intensity, which slightly weakened the impact of the darker revelations later in the story.

Still, the psychological depth and eerie atmosphere make this an unforgettable reading experience for gothic horror lovers. It is the kind of story that crawls under the skin slowly rather than relying on constant shocks. The ending leaves behind an unsettling emptiness that lingers long after the final page.

A dangerous obsession wrapped in velvet darkness

Some books pull you in with action. Others with romance. ‘The Devil We Crave’ by Jagger Cole sinks its claws into the reader through tension alone. The kind that lingers beneath every conversation, every touch, every threat that feels far too tempting to resist.

Jagger Cole creates a dark world filled with obsession, power, manipulation and desire, where love constantly balances on the edge of destruction. The chemistry between the characters burns from the very first moment and never truly lets go. Every interaction feels dangerous, emotionally charged and addictive in a way that makes it impossible to stop turning the pages.

What stood out most was the psychological push and pull. Beneath the dark romance and possessiveness hides vulnerability, trauma and emotional conflict that gives the story more depth than expected. The tension is not only physical but emotional, which makes the relationship feel intense and consuming.

The pacing occasionally slows in the middle with scenes that feel slightly repetitive, but the atmosphere remains strong enough to keep the story gripping throughout. The darker elements, the constant emotional conflict and the explosive chemistry easily carry the weaker moments.

‘The Devil We Crave’ is seductive, toxic, emotional and utterly addictive. A story where danger and desire become impossible to separate and where every chapter pulls the reader deeper into the darkness.

When the bond feels more dangerous than freedom

Some stories pull the reader in slowly. ‘Moonbound Bonds’ sinks its claws in almost immediately and refuses to let go. Annie Anderson creates a dark paranormal world filled with dangerous magic, shifting loyalties, and a bond that constantly balances on the thin line between obsession and protection.

Sable is the kind of heroine that immediately stands out. After years of surviving under someone else’s control, every decision she makes carries fear, anger, and desperation beneath the surface. That emotional weight gives the story a rawness that makes the tension feel real. Harkan, on the other hand, is intense, possessive, and absolutely impossible to ignore. Their connection burns from the very first pages, but what made this relationship work so well was the constant struggle between distrust and undeniable attraction.

The atmosphere in this book feels dark, feral, and addictive. The worldbuilding unfolds naturally through the story, while the pacing keeps the danger constantly close. The mix of shifters, magic, rival forces, and the looming Mating Moon created a sense of urgency that made it difficult to stop reading. Especially the emotional and psychological tension between the characters gave the story its strongest moments.

The slow burn worked very well here, though there were a few moments where the possessive dynamic became slightly repetitive. Still, the chemistry, emotional intensity, and darker undertones carried the story effortlessly.

‘Moonbound Bonds’ is a paranormal romantasy filled with danger, longing, and the kind of bond that leaves scars long after the final page. And honestly, that lingering feeling is exactly what makes this story so addictive.

A dark romance filled with obsession and chaos

Wicked Sanctuary by Jane Henry delivers a dark and emotionally intense story filled with toxic relationships, manipulation, obsession, and dangerous attraction. The atmosphere immediately pulls the reader into a heavy and unsettling world where trust barely exists and emotions constantly spiral out of control.

The strongest part of the story is definitely the tension between the characters. Their connection feels messy, obsessive, and emotionally volatile in a way that fits the darker tone of the book very well. The chemistry keeps the pages turning, especially during the more emotionally charged scenes.

At the same time, the story did feel repetitive at times. Several conflicts and emotional confrontations started to blend together, which slowed down the pacing in the middle part of the book. Some character motivations also felt underdeveloped, making it harder to fully connect emotionally with certain decisions and reactions.

While the atmosphere and darker relationship dynamics were interesting, the story occasionally focused so heavily on the toxic push and pull that it lost some emotional depth outside of the romance itself. Because of that, the emotional impact did not fully hit as strongly as expected.

Even so, ‘Wicked Sanctuary’ still offers an addictive dark romance atmosphere with enough tension and emotional chaos to keep fans of darker relationship dynamics engaged until the end.

The academy setting immediately creates a feeling of isolation and mystery, where every hallway, secret, and interaction feels like part of something much larger waiting to unravel.

At the center of the story are Felix and Avery, whose connection carries the entire emotional weight of the book effortlessly. Their dynamic never relies solely on dramatic arguments or attraction alone. Instead, the tension builds gradually through sharp conversations, emotional resistance, lingering vulnerability, and the constant feeling that neither of them fully understands the bond pulling them together. That slower emotional progression makes the romance feel consuming once the walls between them finally begin to crack.

Felix stands out immediately with his protective and possessive black cat energy, but what makes him compelling is the quieter vulnerability hidden underneath the sharper edges. Avery balances him perfectly by refusing to simply give in, allowing their relationship to feel emotionally layered instead of predictable. Together, they create a chemistry that feels both dangerous and strangely intimate at the same time.

Beyond the romance, the story maintains a strong sense of mystery throughout. The magical world never feels overly complicated, but instead immersive and atmospheric, allowing the darker undertones surrounding the academy to remain constantly present in the background. Small pieces of the mystery slowly unfold at a satisfying pace, adding tension without overshadowing the emotional core of the story.

The pacing works particularly well because the quieter emotional moments are given enough room to breathe before the story pulls the reader back into the danger and uncertainty surrounding Felix and Avery. That balance gives the novel a cinematic feeling, especially during the later chapters where the emotional stakes become heavier and everything starts colliding together.

'A Game of Cat and Witch' is not simply a magical romance filled with tropes. It feels like stepping into a storm built from longing, danger, sharp claws, and emotions neither character can fully escape.

Waar muren geheimen blijven fluisteren

Willow House ademt geschiedenis.

Where Love Turns Venomous 🖤🔪

Thank you to Epica Book PR for the ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review.

‘Noxious Lies’ by Noxious Lies is the kind of dark romance that feels suffocating in the best possible way. Heavy with tension, emotional damage, manipulation, and attraction so intense it almost feels dangerous to witness. From the very first pages, the story wraps itself around the reader like smoke, thick with secrets and the constant feeling that disaster is waiting just around the corner.

What made this story work so well was the emotional volatility between the characters. Nothing ever felt stable. Every conversation carried hidden meaning, every moment of vulnerability felt risky, and every touch came with the possibility of destruction. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was sharp and emotionally charged, creating a constant push and pull between hatred, obsession, and reluctant trust.

The morally gray MMC was impossible to fully figure out, which made him even more compelling. Protective one moment, terrifying the next. His presence dominated every scene with an intensity that kept the tension painfully high throughout the entire story. The hitman × witness trope added an underlying sense of danger that never truly disappeared, making even quieter moments feel uneasy.

One of the strongest elements was the atmosphere. The emotional darkness slowly intensified chapter by chapter, pulling the story deeper into obsession, fear, and emotional chaos. Once the darkest part of the book began, the pacing became incredibly addictive. The emotional weight hit harder with every chapter, yet the story never lost control of its tension.

The characters themselves were deeply flawed and emotionally damaged in ways that felt messy, frustrating, and realistic. Their relationship was far from healthy, but that toxicity became part of what made the emotional connection feel so consuming. The charged power dynamics constantly blurred the line between vulnerability and control, creating scenes that felt both intimate and dangerous at the same time.

‘Noxious Lies’ is not a soft romance. It is emotionally raw, dark, addictive, and filled with the kind of tension that lingers long after finishing the final page.
