See allSo why the five stars? I think it goes without saying, Stephen King is a great writer. Most living above the underside of a rock would agree. But I could not have guessed that being a writer the caliber of King would mean that even a non-fiction book, intended to educate and not amuse, when placed in the right hands, could be every bit as entertaining, thoughtful, and touching as one's favorite fantastical fiction.
Prepare for the cliche; I could not put this book down. It is equal parts autobiographical and educational, often with little distinction between the two. Sometimes studying a life can be the most effective way to learn a craft.
You might be surprised to know that I would recommend anyone and everyone read this book, even if they have no intentions of becoming a writer of any sort. It's that good. If, however, you do aspire to such an endeavor, you'll find yourself doubly blessed.
I'll keep this simple. I gave this book 5 stars. I'm sure the book itself warrants all 5 stars by itself, but I implore you to listen to the audiobook. The narrator, playing the child main character, is exceptional. She creates an ambiance that make the entire experience that much more immersive and creepy.
