4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had a hard time with one fresh off Lonesome Dove mainly because of how that whole thing continues and is handled but I kept going and like the rest of the series it's a great character study of human behavior. It's got some great insights like the whole series and I'm happy I finally read this series.

Honestly this fell a little flat with me. The characters seemed slightly off, even though it was good to be with them again.

The whole Joyce/daughter back and forth was kinda annoying to me but that's probably a me thing...

I did feel for Elizabeth and thought her coming back to herself was a nice touch after her loss but even that felt overly muted.

I also wasn't enthralled by the mystery this time and found it bland and not really interesting.

Vera's got quite the gang now after the end of this one. I wonder if there will be a third book?

The new characters were interesting and the fakeness with Instagram and tiktok felt relevant, since that's something you hear a lot these days.

I wish there were some legit recipes to go with this book toward the end or something cause there were a few dishes that sounded interesting. Makes me sad my grandmother wasn't someone who cooked.

So I knew the gist of this having watched the miniseries religiously as a child with my father, I don't know if he ever knew this was a book series as he wasn't much of a reader but once I found out I always wanted to read it making it a bucket list challenge of sorts.

The story itself doesn't stray from the memory of the series I grew up with and even though we watched it a lot I found I had forgotten many of the POV's and stories and even how some of the major events paned out. I couldn't believe my memory was so poorly and it made me sad for my father to think I had forgotten so much he had loved so dearly.

After reading the series chronologically till now I knew what the prose was like and what I was getting into and like I thought they just keep getting better and I'm excited to finish the series with Streets of Laredo next.

Some of these were pretty profound and some were pretty middling and ramble-y. No surprise. I remember really liking Greenlights and this had bits of that which I found a bit odd since this was a separate thing. It's cool that he kept journals since he was young though and he wasn't shy about writing poetry as a young man. Glad I got this one at the library, I'm sure it'll work great for someone!

This is super cute and a great reminder of caring and humility. I love the art and the fountain pen cursive, this whole vibe is comfort overload with loads of heart. It makes me wanna buy a copy and send it to everyone I know. I wish I could.

These are so cute and fun, a good pallet cleanser between heavy reads and thick tomes. The character growth for all involved has been fun and even the background characters are getting some cool moments. Can't wait to see what happens next! I'll continue with this series gladly.
