2 Books
See allI finished *Cockroaches*, the second book in the Harry Hole series, and at this point I’m mostly just pushing through the series rather than feeling hooked by it.
I started reading these books because the CEO of my company mentioned that he enjoys the series, but so far they haven’t grabbed me the way some other crime series have. The strongest part of this book for me was the Bangkok setting. I enjoyed the descriptions of the city, from the scenery and neighborhoods to the roads, hotels, and dive bars. The setting often felt more interesting than the investigation itself.
The mystery was pretty underwhelming for me. It also took me more than a month to finish, partly because the story never really pulled me in and partly because I’ve been spending most of my free time building FermiLit and LunaReader. With long gaps between reading sessions, it became difficult to remember all the characters and details, which probably didn’t help.
Still, the ending is fresh in my mind, and my main reaction is relief that this investigation is finally over. Now I can move on to *The Redbreast* and hope that’s the book where the series finally clicks for me.
