Thor, Written by J. Michael Straczynski, and art by Olivier Coipel. I'm really loving this. The characterization of Thor is great, he's incredibly well written. The film counterpart (which I love) tries to be more balanced between comedy and seriousness for the character, this version focuses on the seriousness, bringing most of the comedy from the characters around him. It's nice to see Thor be an actual king, something the MCU hasn't gotten to do much. It's really interesting seeing him having to make decisions in that role, seeing him go through the moral dilemma's of it all. Thor beats up Iron Man in this book, something that in this era, could make any character likeable, but Thor is so in character during the scene. Everything he does during the fight felt like something that Thor would do, and this book very quickly makes you love Thor. It just works.
The art is incredible, it brings the epic feeling of the writing to a whole new level. Straczynski earned his cameo in the film, as this clearly did so much for Thor. I can't give it more than four stars, as Vol. 1 is only six issues out of the run's twelve, but I am loving this so far.
