Not a terribly good romance. I couldn't connect to the main characters, and while it had a promising beginning it quickly descended to a mass of historical romance cliches.
Yes, I'm giving 5 stars to a romance novel! This is my first novel by this author, and it won't be the last. This book was filled with humor, something I find to generally be lacking in this genre. I loved Hyacinth and Gareth, and his grandmother was also really delightful. It isn't great literature, but it was a fun read. I can't wait to read more of the Bridgerton novels!
I have a BookTube channel if you would like to hear more of my thoughts on books!
I'm as sad as anyone that this book didn't work for me. I LOVE the idea of a magical, mysterious library, but unfortunately the execution in this book just didn't quite come together.
I enjoyed the core ideas that this book explores - primarily the question of who gets to write our histories. Unfortunately, I didn't really connect with either of our main characters. I also didn't feel like we got quite enough of the library, which is funny because so much of the book takes place there. I just struggled to picture it and what was going on.
Lots of people love this one, so this might just be a me thing!
Victim to my 100 page rule - if it's not grabbed me by then, it's not going to. This is a perfectly serviceable young adult novel, but I think it suffered from being read directly after the wonderful “Angelfall” by Susan Ee.
Pretty much my go-to cookbook. I have most of Mark Bittman's cookbooks, and they never let me down! What I like is how simple the recipes are - and they are delicious! I don't think cooking has to be complicated. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do cook that way most of the time. Recommended, and not just for vegetarians - my meat eating husband loves this book!
I remember reading this ages ago (I think it was assigned in school) and not liking it. I picked it up at a book sale, and nope... still don't like it. There are many books that do this subject very well, but for me SpoilerI didn't care for the animal rights aspect... not that I don't think it's a good cause, just that I didn't find it compelling in this story. Sorry, middle school english teacher - I do appreciate that we were given such an interesting book to read!
