Did I enjoy this book? I’m genuinely not sure. However, I did enjoy the themes this book explores. It is beautifully written, the characters are morally complex, often to the point of being completely unlikeable, yet utterly human. Sally has pieced together the narrative so skilfully, often times it feels like you are listening to the inner workings of someone’s actual mind and thoughts.
The book explores themes of monogamy, polyamory, grief, social expectation, the importance we place on social norms, family dynamics, trauma, and so much more.
For me though, the storyline lacked excitement. I’m not sure. I am still processing.
I adored this book. I think living in the area for quite some time, really made this book stand out for me. It meant I was able to fully immerse myself. When Dalton spoke about sitting on the corner of Adelaide Street, watching the Brisbane population stroll on by with their lunch, I was there with him.
I loved Trent's writing style. I loved the whimsical nature in which he retold the love stories of the people that came his way. I was nostalgic reading this... taking myself back to where I was in 2021, when Trent would have been sitting on that corner. I just loved it
I listened to the audio and I just adored this book. Bunnie and Jelly Roll are living proof that we love a good redemption arc. Profoundly human, and awe inspiring. What a woman
