See allI couldn't make myself like this book. It was just too corny. Every time I read the names of the vampires I cringed. Also, there was not foundation for the main love story. One minute Wrath is a complete asshole and the next he asks her to marry him? Another stupid detail: she's about to become a fricking vampire but she decides to go to work? Hell nah
Bien olvidables todas.
I love this book so much. I love how nature is described, how we can feel the monster's misery and desolation, as well as all the existential questions it poses.
I love how ambivalent one feels towards creator and creation: I like Victor's hunger for knowledge and at the same I emphatize with the monster. You don't bring life into this world to abandon it.
The monster's pleas also made me think of humans pleading to God(s) that left us to mend for ourselves. So incredibly sad yet so wonderful this book is.
“Beware, for I am fearless and therefore powerful.”
Every page of this book is a punch in the face. What happened to him was the worst and he didn't try to hide it or sweeten it. He allowed us to see what happens inside the mind of someone in such extreme situation, the noble and the shameful. I keep with me his frustration, his pain, his doubts, his disappointment.
It's so wholesome but critical of Prejudice and ignorance at the same time. It reminds us of the importance of mindfulness, of doing things with care, of listening to other's stories, and of making life our own.
I love that the purpose of life is being seen through the lens of disability instead of a capitalist one:
“Anyone is capable of making a positive contribution to the world through simple observation, irrespective of circumstance.”
