Yes, detective inspector Sean Duffy grows on you. Liking him more and more. He is often witty and always anti-authoritarian. He’s fun to think along with.

Lots of humor, a somewhat bizarre plot, a sympathetic protagonist, an unusual setting (during the Troubles in Belfast). Very well read by Gerard Doyle (Storytel).

Not his best.

Somewhat better that his debut, but still a tad flat, emotionally.

Well written, OK plot, but I did not get emotionally attached to anyone in the book.

A very unusual plot.

A great thriller.

Dick Francis is ALWAYS and consistently good, fun to read, good plot, good writing, sympathetic protagonists, interesting characters. Books you want to finish in one go. And no gruesome murders and sadistic psychopathic killers, a currrent trend that makes me rather sick.

I liked this book, a nice an calm police procedural, up until the plot became clear. It was too silly for words. Stopped reading.

Good story. Long story. Listened to the audiobook, very well performed by Angus King. Stronger on action than on relationships.

DNF. It dragged out too long.

Dick Francis always delivers. Clever books.

Very well written, but it seems to be going nowhere. The main character is bland. Actually not one character is interesting. Apparently the last 30% of this book is very enjoyable, but at 2/3 I am ready to give up.

I am growing very fond of this series. Ryan and his little son are charming and completely unconventional characters. His collegue Ray, who will probably turn into a nicer person soon, is an interesting sidekick. Even though I still lived the first book in this series most, I can’t wait to read more.

DNF. You can tell it ends badly from the very beginning.

DNF. Did not grip me.

Very nice series. Witty, calmly evolving stories. British tongue in cheek humor.

Love the way the fictitious retired DCI converses with his patner. And with everyone else. Humorous. Friendly. A great story to dwell in.

Well written, humorous, not too thrilling, warm: almost a cozy. Very agreeable.

Interesting and fast paced, but not as charming as the first book in this series. Hopefully the third book will have the charm of #1.

Fast paced thriller. Well done. It ends with a huge cliffhanger. Don’t think I have ever seen that before.

Kristin Hannah probably just isn’t for me. It’s such a woman’s book, it’s all about emotions. Some of her books are ominous from the beginning, this one isn’t, so I stuck it out for 75% and then I could not be bothered about the ending.

Last try. DNF.

Very witty. Nice cast of characters. Trailer park cop with anger management issues, who is very clever and a great dad.

Nice, easy writing style, nice set of characters, OK blend of action and emotion. Sympathetic. Not outstandingly original. Not too thrilling, does not keep you up at night. Which for me is a plus.
