Incidents Around the House

Leave it to Josh Malerman to hit it out of the park again! This book was wonderfully spooky annd atmospheric, the tension built well, and had genuinely creepy moments. The way he writes adds to the overall nightmare that builds throughout the book. Loved every minute of it, and never wanted to put it down. Highly suggest this to those who love horror, the is a fun and horrifying adventure into a families worst nightmare.

I would be lying if I said there weren’t a few cheesy or over the top moments throughout this book. But overall I couldn’t put this book down and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. It has a few twists and turns most remaining a mystery till near the end which was very enjoyable. And I love reading from the different perspectives, not finding myself wanting to rush through any character. It got me out of what felt like the start of a reading slump.

Great idea, but I hated the end. And felt at times it was lacking.

Also super weird and gross to have the main character be interested in a minor.

I really loved the start of this book, it was fantastic I loved the characters and it was going in such an interesting direction and then bam it ends and I was so confused, idk why it ended like it did but it felt like half the book was missing.

Night of the Mannequins

This was a weird and fun ride! I enjoyed the way the main character was written and loved how the story came together until the end which I wish was a bit more ambiguous. And some end plots points that seemed to be a bit out there and a little random.

The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Volume 4: The Minority Report

I think that this book is almost a perfect example of what short stories should be. They had just enough detail to keep you interested and to make sure you understand the world while not getting too bogged down in unnecessary details. They were a great length as well none felt like they over stayed their welcome and at the same time managed to have enough breathing room to feel like like a full story.

Very enjoyable set of stories that all feel like they shared a general theme and feeling. Can’t wait to read more of his work.

The City We Became

Wrote a review for

This is a hard one to rate, it’s beautifully written, like poetry in some places. The first chapter didn’t feel super narrative to me and more like spoken word, was a little worried I wasn’t going to like it, but as it goes on it gets better and better. It definitely a slower book and long so it took me a while to get through, however it feels so wholly unique and wonderful that I think anything less than 5 stars wouldn’t be fitting. So even though idk if it was generally my style I absolutely love it and will be reading the next instalment for sure.
