May a love like this never find me

This book did not meet my expectations. From the way this book is portrayed in popular culture I thought this would be a schmaltzy romance (The movie is even coming out for Valentine's Day!), when really it's a bland, third person re-telling of familial infighting between the worse people you've ever known.

Basically the whole story is tell don't show, so we don't see any interactions between the two "lovers" unless the narrator sees it or is told by another character. Sometimes I felt like I was in a game of telephone.
