The English blithely screwed over the natives wherever they went but it's impressive how much of a shit Churchill was and how little of that made it into my education. His name should be remembered in the same way that Hitler and Stalin are.

This is very much a middle book - how effective (or useless) it is won't be known until I read the next book. The most interesting stuff mostly happens outside the society, with many many hints about interesting things to come.

The audiobook is (again) a pain to get into because each character has their own voice actor and, despite how good each narrator is (and they are), it's difficult for me to adapt to each voice in order to understand what they're saying. I'm positive I missed parts of the story due to shifting narrators.

While this one is still a "special boy/girl" sci-fantasy, I did like the constant edging of foreshadowing betrayal immediately followed by descriptions of how nice a character is. In fact, when a significant betrayal did come, I didn't believe it and more than halfway expect to find it reversed later on the series. The ratio of fantasy to sci-fi felt weird to me but I couldn't say why.

Interesting subversion of certain tropes and well crafted telegraphing. It didn't hit quite right for me, probably because I'm currently in an argument with the "special boy/girl" model of fantasy.

I'm glad I read this. The ENIAC 6 deserve more respect and more awareness of how much they brought to programming. I expected the quiet sexism of having their work accepted but not their value as people. I wasn't expecting modern jackasses to try to erase their contributions and deny their importance.

Nicely different. I hope there will be sequels.

Beyond issues with the male narrator sounding like an excited 13 year old and not a tired 18 year old, I really enjoyed my time here... So much so, that I've immediately begun the sequel.

Fantastic.

On the one hand, very good advice for sincere decent folks. On the other hand very good advice for malicious manipulative people (think: used car salesman.) And on the other other hand, a big fuck you to Autistics not interested in roleplaying as a bubbly and effervescent neurotypical.

Cute and smart.  Just a touch long but very enjoyable.

Unengaging. There are horrors here but they are consistently glossed over.

For a 16 hr book, this was 10 hrs to long. The first 12 hours could have been done in 1st or 3rd person in 2 hours and had a four (I really liked it) it five (I loved it) star rating.

At one point Harrow find herself in the military almost entirely so the author can make a pun about baristas. The entire scene contributes nothing to the story.

Excellent resource for those suspecting their ADHD and those recently diagnosed. Possibly not as applicable for women?

This is what I would consider to be a “junk” read. Delightful and fun, and exactly on trope. Despite the protagonist being an adult, the tenor of the story is decidedly YA - which makes the explicit sex scenes feel a little jarring and out of place.

This is the first book in a five book series, and the next one is due later in 2023.

This is a 4.5 star book that's been misfiled as fantasy. If I'd known it wasn't fantasy, I wouldn't have read it.

While I liked this story quite a lot, I will admit that I had to hit up Wikipedia after finishing to make sure I had actually understood the final events.

Fun, well written, engaging. There's a scene at the end that appears to contradict earlier information - which makes me really curious if this was intentional or...?

Very fun, getting to see our favorites again but from a different angle. I do wish every third chapter didn't explain what it means when the warlord prince is riding the killing edge.

As usual for this series, I really enjoy the world and characters while being fully aware of just how bad it is.

Fantastic. Horrible. I still don't like 2nd person.

At times, there was a feeling of Gaiman and McGuire.

The language and world are too inventive for any story to keep up with.  Despite that, the pieces are well woven and a satisfying conclusion is reached.

Kinda meh. Some of the art was nice, some was not - the story was unengaging.

I originally encountered the Runaways much later on, so there was a bit of mental confusion encountering the group in what turns out to be a prequel (for me.) I like how Alex is the least powered but most leader-ish.
