A compelling mix of different genre types that starts almost like a Jules Verne esque stenography of different magical stories before turning into a nail-biting escape narrative. Zahn, unfortunately, can't help but write his female characters in the vein of Mara Jade, accomplished yet petulant woman treated like children by men, who, as their superiors, must constantly sooth over their hapless, illogical defiance of their mortal circumstances.
