I really struggled with this one. It started off rough,I kept dozing off and couldn’t stay focused on the story. I eventually had to pair my physical copy with the audiobook just to make it through. The characters felt predictable, and even though there were a few intriguing moments, the author missed the mark for me. Overall, it was just an okay read, nothing more.

I loved Children of Blood and Bone, but I was kind of disappointed with this one. I still cared about the characters and wanted to see what happened, but the story felt pretty repetitive and almost like it was from a whole different series. I’m still invested and will read book three.

This is my first A. E. Valdez book, and it definitely won’t be my last! I absolutely loved it. The characters were relatable, and the friends-to-lovers trope was amazing. As someone new to romance, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The story was beautifully written, and I can’t wait to finish The Rise and Fall series. A new favorite author for sure!
