Awesome set-up book. Sometimes it takes a lot for a writer to make you like his characters, the world-building and all that stuff, but Joe Abercrombie, in under 550 pages, is able to make you love all the stuff.
The plot kinda has his problems: there's not really much happening after the beginning, even tho our main characters crosses the road, but considering this is the 1st book of the series, i don't find it a big issue.
Side note, the book is really funny, and I think Abercrombie was really good at using cursing words
Excited to continue

This book was awesome. Tolkien's way to capture you into the middle earth is something that you rarely see written in books, and his use of language was spectacular. I really liked how he took his time describing the world, each race and how he described the journey without over-detailing small things.
MY GOD.
This book has one of my favorite magic systems ever(and i mean, Brandon is so good at magic systems that i had no doubts), but what amazed to me of this book where the many philosophical elements of this book, from the perspectives of art to the importante of human's honesty.
Simply amazing, i love you Brando
I have my own complaints with this one, starting with Sanderson stopping the (fake?)climax for example, but those are small grips, because this is fantastic book. Dalinar is my favorite character , so i was so excited to dive into his pasts, and it did not disappoint one bit, and his arc was fantastic in this book.
it does not surpass Words of Radiance as my favorite Brandon Sanderson book.
Can't wait to finish this journey soon, and then the pain for Stormlight sequels will start soon.
What a fantastic book. I am not sure if i prefer the climax of this book or the one of the predecessor, but it was fantastic either way. This book is much better paced than The Way of Kings, with more important events happening during the story. I didn't enjoy Shallan's flashbacks as much as Kaladin's, but i have to say i enjoyed the reveals(even tho i got them spoiled) and Shallan's relationship with his family. Her story was defo the best in this book, with Kaladin being a close second.
Overall, a masterpiece just like its predecessor, i am so excited for Oathbringer
I finally started the Stormlight Archive, a series i planned to read for a long time, after i finished Mistborn era 1.
Brandon has this great ability to conceive so many great characters...and especially, great cliffhangers. The last 100 pages of this book have been some of the most unsettling parts i've ever saw, and i can't wait to continue my journey into the Cosmere.
Let's talk about the star of this book: Kaladin. Can't put into words how much i love this guy already. He is the classic character with a tragic backstory, but he makes the best use of his past for the present and future.
My favorite 2 characters, however, are Shallan and Dalinar: i guess it's because they are the most complex ones so far, but they also add the best 2 stories so far. Pretty excited the next 2 mainline books will have them as the focus.
The world-building and magic system are simply fantastic.
I am giving way too much 5 stars recently, but i guess i can't help myself from not consuming good media lol. And Sanderson proved to me yet again, after Mistborn trilogy, how great stories he can write
(This is a very long review for me, so you will find a lot of grammar errors, but i hope you can enjoy it)
SPOILERS:
There's a lot to say about this book, which is my least favourite of the series so far(but i still enjoyed it).
Let's start with the cons:
Daenerys is back, but she's really uninteresting in this book and very repetitive. Her Meeren plotline is not interesting, there was no real development and it was full of forgettable characters. I still like her as a character, but this book missed the opportunity to develop her and expand the Essos arc.
Tyrion is also back, but he is mixed bag: his first chapters are interesting(Griff storyline) but the moment he becomes a slave,he starts to become repetitive and not a lot happens in his late chapters. However, Tyrion meets Penny, and she's a nice addition to the bag, especially because of the repercussions Tyrion will have if she loses her: set up him as the devil on the shoulder of Daenerys when they will meet. And that's the thing why i can't hate at all Daenerys and Tyrion chapters: they are the duo i most look forward to in Winds(hopefully), which will probably shake things up in a big way.
Dorne and Davos don't get much spotlight in this book, which is a shame since i am really interested how Martin will handle them in the next books.
Asha is another mixed bad: she has a great personality which makes her a great character, but i wasn't really fond with her chapters.
Now let's start with the pros:
Jon absolutely shines in this book. His time as lord commander is great and him having to deal with the stuff of the wildlings, the night's watch, stannis and melisandre was a great decision on George's part. I can't wait to see what his future will look like.
Barristan is an absolutely great pov addition: i guess we will not have him for long, but he single handedly made the Meeren plotline more interesting, and he has great inner thoughts.
But for me,the best pov of this book, was Theon(or rather Reek). Easily some of the best stuff Martin has ever written. Ramsay is a psychopath, and he has completely manipulated Theon in his Reek persona. I can't wait to see how Grrm developes his redemption arc.
Side note also for Victarion, which is a big standout as always and i can't wait to see how he will use his new arm.
I don't know what to say about Griff for now. I am very intrigued by what he could do, but also there's so much little we know about him that i don't know if i will come around liking it.
Dance, overall, is a great book, but doesn't reach the same level of Game,Feast and especially Storm.
A lot goes down in this book. It's kind of a like a new prologue for the Asoiaf world, with the introduction of Dorne plot-line and the re-birth of the Greyjoys. Not gonna lie, some characters' absence is felt, but the new additions Cersei and Victarion made up for them. Wish a lot more went down in this book, but i loved all the cliffhangers so i ain't complaining
This book was mainly carried by Tyrion and Bran.
I find myself not liking the other povs as much(There's a lot of filler in Jon and Arya's chapters, Daenerys ones are too few,Catelyn gets interesting only on her last chapters, Sansa is fine but not that interesting),but i loved the new characters additions and povs like Davos and Theon, even tho their chapters were not a lot.
Still the plot is solid and Bran's final chapter is one of my favourite parts of the entire saga so far
8/10
Never read and watched the HP movies expect some things so i was excited to start reading the books.
Took me a while to finish this book for some stuff but i loved it.It's very magical and the characters are great. It introduces wayyy too many characters to keep track of all of them but i really appreciated this book. I loved finding out about Hogwarts, the best thing of the book.
4/5
My favourite book from the original Mistborn trilogy.
I seriously couldn't have asked for a better ending and better characters arcs. The book is fast paced from the start while at the same time giving a lot of characterization to old characters(Spook for example),i appreciate how they explored the rest of the world and expanded even more the Mistborn lore.
I am still so satisfied with this book a. 3 months later finishing it.
Thank you Sanderson for giving us this amazing trilogy and i hope it will find even more success with the likely movies adaptations.
P.S. After i am done with Harry Potter i'll try to continue Stormlight and the new Mistborn trilogy, hopefully finishing everything by the end of the year
This is the weakest Mistborn book from the original trilogy.
The rat twist is absolutely fantastic and the ending is great, however the book is way too long. I was a fan of the politics and Elend+ Vin relationship but it could have lasted 400 pages less. The crew has a great role in this one but i have felt they didn't have a great arc. Tindwyll,on the other hand, was a fantastic addition, just like Zane, but he was wasted in this book.
In no means it's a bad book,it expands greatly the Mistborn's lore and there are great foreshadowings to Hero of Ages, but it has a lot of missed opportunities in so many aspects.
This is the book that got me into reading seriously so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Despite having a very, very simple prose, this book is absolutely amazing. Vin is an amazing character, just like Kelsier and i absolutely loved their dynamic. The world is amazing and the magic system is fantastic.
There are two weak points in this book tho:
Lord Ruler is not that great as a villain. Hero of Ages fixes up a lot of things but he isn't great there.
Romance: they made Elend and Vin fall in love to quickly.
Despite that,this was amazing.
Probably one of the most depressing pieces of media i have ever consumed. It kinda reflects our current reality in may aspects which makes the book even better, showing that chasing a materialistic life(or similar things) and forgetting of the friends and family members close to you or many other important things, is going to lead only to suffering
