Edit: Okay, now that I am calm a bit, I...have to take a star from my initial rating (of 5 stars) because...uhm...Bel was kind of annoying to work with as a protagonist. And while I do get her motives, character, etc. I will be truthful, I did not enjoy her character. So...yeah...Now it is 4 stars (looking at u Anna)
I can't believe that at one point of the book I was like “Yeah, this is two stars, three max”. THOSE LAST CHAPTERS?! WHAT?! I was so focused on the pages I forgot to blink (fr). I am SO glad Rachel turned out to be good. The dad being bad? That I didn't see coming. I mean, I felt that something might be going on with him at some point. But the truth was more than I could have predicted :D. But again, this is Holly Jackson we're talking about. I've only read one series and one book of hers and I am getting ob-sessed (get the reference?)
Also, I have to say this. I swear, every time the saying “Family first” is mentioned in a book I get flashbacks of horror and trauma (I blame this book and The Inheritance :( )
I....have nothing to say. Overwhelmed after ALL that, I started this keeping in mind it will focus more on the war rather than anything else so my expectations were met, though WHY, WHY?! WHY MISS AUTHOR, WHY?! Why kill Prim? Now I'll keep imagining an alt ending where she stays alive to be an auntie. Also what the f*ck is wrong with Gale? That man confused me so much, like, are you with Kat? No? Heartless much? Yes. Most of what rewarded me in the book was in the final three chapters, so I am glad I kept on reading. I won't forget the amazing characters that said goodbye here, Boggs, Finnick, SWEET PRIM *insert crying face*
Okay, okay...This was something. It is always a good feeling to know more about characters mentioned in a previous book, Molly in this case. But let's be real, did Cage really book ALL available rooms in ALL nearby hotels just so he could invite her in?? or am I having delusions? Also I am sooo grateful for that happy ending, wish we had more scenes featuring Molly and her sister, but my imagination's enough for now.
Finally finished this. I do want to read the trilogy, but some events I truly found hard to accept such as when Slen and Yusef killed GK, like, I literally screamed, couldn't that be avoided? It just felt rushed and unnecessary for me. Though I must say, this book made me realize I do not hate morally grey characters as much as I thought I'll do, so kudos for that. Overall, 2.5/5
This....was new territory for me. I don't usually read graphic novels, nor do I read...realistic things in general. And after reading this I can confidently say that I need and I will read more. It felt soooo different from reading fantasy books (not that I don't like them, I LOVE them), it gave me a whole new vibe.
Okay, The Love Hypothesis absolutely got me. I went in blind since I do not read much romance (as a main trope), and I ended up totally obsessed. Don't even get me started on the fake dating trope, it was executed so well it gave me butterflies.
I adored Olive, she's so relatable + Let's not talk about Adam, I am trying to breath here (○´ω`○).
Another thing that I liked other than the dynamic was Olive's friends. Such nice adorable side characters, I need an Anh and a Malcolm irl. Also, for the sake of my mental health I should do this: F*CK U TOM! That little, I WANNA STRANGLE HIM, THEN DROWN HIM, THEN THROW HIM OFF A CLIFF
I was right...I am NOT ready for this series to end, I'll miss Millie the most...Also, thanks to a friend, I learned to suspect EVERYONE in a book like this. It proved useful, if you know you know. Once they started suspecting Enzo way too much, I knew he didn't actually do it, and that twist with Martha? Amazing.
I DEVOURED this book. That's it, this is the best series I've read since The Inheritance Games. I loved it, I loved how everything plays out in the end. I am at a loss. The twists were perfect for me. Millie's relationship with Broccoli (I cannot call him by his real name after Enzo called him Broccoli) was painful to read. But the whole revenge plot was INSANE.
“An unbelievably twisty read that will have you glued to the pages late
into the night.”, sure it is, Author. I couldn't put it down.
NOOOOO WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?! WHY? WHYYYY?! I started crying way before the last pages, cause I knew things were going to end badly. Now I have to wait for the second book, there better be a good ending there. For a moment I thought that the gargoyle was going to die near the ending, and the way he was shouting....THAT MADE ME CRY. The world building was amazing, I loved it. That ending, however...I am still debating whether this is a 4 star or a 5 star. I need more thinking about the ending.
