This is totally my thing. Historical fiction with a large blob of horror. This is a great book but I found myself wanting more detail and more character development. That said its probably the book I have enjoyed the most this year so far.
Another great read from Sarah Lotz. I really enjoyed The Three and Day Four and for me this just as good. The only thing that lets the book down is the ending, Its almost like a chapter is missing.
The first two thirds of this book are excellent. The last third, when the book flips on its head, I didn't enjoy so much. For some people it will be the other way around. There is, however, enough to make me want to read to the next book.
For me the best Jack Caffery novel since Ritual. There are some evil themes going on but the true horror of this book is the fact that these themes are believable and probably something you will read in your newspaper tomorrow.
Favourite book of the year so far. Wonderful gothic horror with a really satisfyingly ending. For me it's up there with The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters.
Up until the last 50 or so pages this was definitely a 5 for me and while the ending wrapped everything up nicely, it just felt a bit rushed. Despite that, brilliantly written especially the bits set in 1986.. if you love Stephen King you WILL love this.
slightly above average ghost story that loses marks for awful character names. I do wonder if Peter James was offered a free Nespresso Machine because that really is one of the central characters in the book.
Everything about this book was brilliant...... until the last chapter which was a bit of let down. Highly recommend this book if you like horror and want to read something different. Would love David Mitchell to write an episode of Dr Who.
Its good but I didn't like it as much as Dark Matter. This story is told from the viewpoint of young medic Stephen Pearce and for some reason he reminded me of Adrian Mole.
