Hiking, camping, witches, werebeasts. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is totally my thing. Historical fiction with a large blob of horror. This is a great book but I found myself wanting more detail and more character development. That said its probably the book I have enjoyed the most this year so far.

Another great read from Sarah Lotz. I really enjoyed The Three and Day Four and for me this just as good. The only thing that lets the book down is the ending, Its almost like a chapter is missing.

The first two thirds of this book are excellent. The last third, when the book flips on its head, I didn't enjoy so much. For some people it will be the other way around. There is, however, enough to make me want to read to the next book.

For me the best Jack Caffery novel since Ritual. There are some evil themes going on but the true horror of this book is the fact that these themes are believable and probably something you will read in your newspaper tomorrow.

Well written but overlong and boggy. The second half is really hard work and the ending a massive disappointment.

Favourite book of the year so far. Wonderful gothic horror with a really satisfyingly ending. For me it's up there with The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters.

very strange and very disturbing.

there's just enough to keep it interesting but at 713 pages it just seems too long for what it is. The last 200 pages are a real chore.

some good bits, some bad bits, some really disturbing bits, some really cringe worthy bits. not as good as any of her other books

Up until the last 50 or so pages this was definitely a 5 for me and while the ending wrapped everything up nicely, it just felt a bit rushed. Despite that, brilliantly written especially the bits set in 1986.. if you love Stephen King you WILL love this.

utterly ridiculous and therefore brilliant

Bravo.... In my opinion, much better than The Loney. Literary horror at its best.

“There were roses. The biggest roses she'd ever seen. They rioted over the bed.”

If you get to the above point in the book you have done well.

psychopaths everywhere

really enjoyed this. easy read. bit different. could be an episode of black mirror.

The Thing meets the Exorcist meets the Da Vinci Code. Looking forward to the TV series.

slightly above average ghost story that loses marks for awful character names. I do wonder if Peter James was offered a free Nespresso Machine because that really is one of the central characters in the book.

The bizarre disturbing tale of a young castrated psychopath

Normally a huge fan, this is a big disappointment . Alll over the place and difficult to follow. My least favourite book by Aycliffe.

really enjoy Susan Hill's short story collections. Alice Baker and The Front Room are the best stories here.

Everything about this book was brilliant...... until the last chapter which was a bit of let down. Highly recommend this book if you like horror and want to read something different. Would love David Mitchell to write an episode of Dr Who.

Its good but I didn't like it as much as Dark Matter. This story is told from the viewpoint of young medic Stephen Pearce and for some reason he reminded me of Adrian Mole.

felt incomplete and a little boring nowhere near as good as the first two
