Realities clash in MirrorWorld. It's man vs monster with nothing less than the fate of the world at stake in this nonstop page turner. When creatures from a neighboring dimension uses fear as a weapon against the people of our world, only a crazy man stands between us and nuclear annihilation. In fact, that's his name: Crazy.
This is another must-read Jeremy Robinson adventure.
This is one of those books that looked interesting after reading the description. But being YA and with the protagonist being a teenage girl, I'll admit that it wasn't at the top of the to-read list. When our book club picked it for this months book, the pain was taken out of the decision and I dug into it. And I am so glad I did. Any of the minimal apprehension I had was forgotten before I realized it. The characters are interesting and engaging, and they blast through a world that is nothing short of fascinating. The underlying mystery plays out at the perfect pace, allowing some questions to hang in the background while others are quickly answered. It's hard to explain what made this book so much fun without giving anything away, so I'll settle for saying that I'm glad I read it. I look forward to the followup because I can't wait to see what happens next.
This was a fantastic followup to the first Joe Tesla book. The mystery of Joe's condition is explored while we learn more about his family and their complicated history. Joe races against the clock while fighting his phobia, all the while trying to uncover the truth behind a series of mysterious and troubling deaths. Your favorite characters from the first book are back for more, making for a fast paced, enjoyable novel. This is a 5-star read that's sure to leave you looking forward to book #3.
I'm a major fan of Graham Brown's thrillers, but the description for this book put it solidly in the sci-fi genre. I'll admit to wondering how he and his co-author would approach such a radically different theme. In short? They nailed it! All of the action/thriller punch, just set to a futuristic, semi-apocalyptic, space-faring, Mars terraforming, mech-warrior plot that races along like a freight train.
If you're a fan of sci-fi, read this book. If you love thrillers, read this book. I couldn't put it down.
The latest Chess Team book is yet another home run. I love this explanation of the lost colony and the Croatoan legend. Particularly the way it links into the existing Chess Team universe. Long time fans of the series will love this release. Anyone new to the series is in for a treat. Creative and higher energy, everything you expect from a Robinson thriller.
This is one of those books that's certain to become a movie. It's a modern day “Jaws” tale: a thrilling adventure with mayhem and destruction, not to mention one badass shark. I blasted through the book because no matter where I was when I stopped reading for the night, I couldn't wait to get back and see what happened next.
The conclusion to the Everlast portion of the Brainrush series was outstanding. I finished this book in record time because I couldn't put it down. The book had me more than a little choked up before it was over. I can't wait to see where things go from here because... wow... that ending. The Brainrush series never fails to satisfy my need for mystery and adventure. But, wow... that ending! ;-)
Another must read novel. I loved it!
A first class espionage thriller with a touch of science fiction and a splash of the occult. I love books that blend genres just enough to keep the reader guessing. Mr. Sneeden does a great job of keeping readers on their toes, and at the edge of their seats. There's a solid ending... At the same time, the conclusion dares the reader not to go looking for the next book at their first opportunity.
Parts of the book tend to drone on, as Child sometimes does. Reacher being Reacher, but sometimes its a bit much and its gets to me. Still, it was interesting and fun. I had to deduct a star for the ending. I can't get into it without killing the book for anyone, but it wasn't plausible. Once you read it, you'll know. It was just too messed up.
I look forward to each new Jumper book. This one goes where no Jumper has gone before. The story takes some very interesting turns. My rating loses a star because the book was overly verbose (to an extreme at times) when it comes to explaining many of the space related details. Space geeks will eat those parts up, but I suspect there will be too much for even the most rabid among them. Still, the story is outstanding. This is a must read installment of the Jumper series.
Flood Rising is an action thriller that will keep you guessing right until the end. I wasn't entirely sure that I would find a book about a teenage girl this interesting, but this was a heart-pounding action romp from cover to cover and it quickly captured my attention. Jenna Flood is hunted at every turn and she has no idea why. Her struggle to survive turns into a fight to uncover a mystery that has followed her since birth. The book has a great conclusion, but its sure to leave you wanting more. I think this is going to be the start of a popular new series.
I've always believed that it's the characters who make any book great. Love them or hate them (you can do both), if the reader feels something for the characters, you have the makings of something special. In fact, this magical world has a great deal of character of its own. The Legend of the WinterKing is an epic fantasy tale with captivating heroes and foes pushed into a thrilling and mysterious adventure. The story uses traditional elements like pixies, ogres, trolls, and elves to create a rich, non-traditional and unique realm with countless secrets. The mystery of the Great Divide and separation of worlds is a fantastic concept. And the way we, as readers, learn of the characters and explore the world keeps the pages turning well into the night.
The Legend of the WinterKing is the first book in a new series. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the next novel!
I'm a big fan of time travel fiction. When I find a book that does the genre proud, I like to talk about it. Rewinder is a great example of what I mean. The book is based on the simple, yet brilliant premise: historians who travel through time to document specific details in the lives of prominent figures. The how's and why's of this after interesting, but the world building that sets the stage for this tale is where Rewinder really shines. Where the book begins, where it ends, and the events in-between make for a novel that's simply a must read.
This book is hard to review without giving too much away. Do yourself a favor and read this book. There's action, there's suspense, and most of all, there's fun!
By the end of the first chapter, I was digging the book. The by end of the second chapter, I didn't even realize that I was already starting the third. Things never slowed down from there. Not only did I love this book, I drank it in. There was a solid mystery to keep things moving, and there was enough action and suspense to satisfy fans of that genre as well. But the heart and soul of this book is, as it should be, its main character: Sinclair O'Malley. That's alright, everyone just calls her Sin for short.
Sin is a powerful female protagonist who's just dripping with character. She's written with a sharp wit, a strong moral campus, and a propensity for harsh language. Add that up and you've got yourself a commanding female lead character that will leave you wanting more.
So back to the human traffic element of the story... It's there. It's a big part of the story. But it wasn't at all what I expected. Mr. LeDuc has done a masterful job of crafting a fast paced, plot driven story that deals with a horrible subject mater, while at the same time not getting mired in the what might have been otherwise crippling detail. The key is the tasteful way that this part of the story has been written. Nothing is needlessly graphic—a method used by some authors to horrify the reader. This is not the case when J.M. LeDuc is at the wheel. Sin sees things but the reader is spared the unnecessary description at key times. I believe that was a careful choice on the part of the author, and a big win for the book overall. It opens it up to a wider range of potential readers—perhaps a slightly younger audience—but certainly any reader who is concerned about horrific detail when it comes to the more sensitive subject matter has been spared.
Add all of this up and you have a killer new protagonist in Sinclair O'Malley. This is a great launch for what I expect to be a very successful series of novels. I eagerly anticipate the second release. I understand that it is already in progress, and personally can't wait!
I love a new Chess Team book, and this is no disappointment. Outstanding action, exotic locations, interesting characters? Count me in! If you're new to the series, it's always a good idea to start with book #1. But Savage is an ideal entry point for anyone wanting to jump aboard mid-series. It's the launch of a new story arc that doesn't presume you're aware of events prior to this book.
Savage is a killer thrill ride. But be warned, the Chess Team is put through the ringer this time around. This book is an emotional roller coaster at times. That said, the ride is 100% fun, and Savage is another amazing Chess Team adventure!
I'm a big fan of the Jumper series. This book takes things in a slightly new direction with the introduction of a new jumper, Cent. She's a 2nd generation jumper and she's one heck of a new interesting addition to the family. The story starts out a tad on the slow side, but it's necessary as the groundwork is properly positioned for the rest of the book. That said, it really doesn't take that long for things to start rolling. And once they do, they REALLY do! The story doesn't stop gaining speed until the end of the book. The plot continues to ratchet event on top of event, adding one interesting complexity on top of the next.
In the end? This is a great addition to the Jumper series— one that leaves you looking forward to the next release. These books are interesting, compelling, and just plain fun. Keep them coming!
This book was a page turner! I loved the characters, and the idea of the bioengineered “vectors.” The psychological engineering was particularly interesting. There are an unusually number of twists and turns near the end. Maybe one or two too many push too close together, in my opinion. But it was a LOT of fun to read. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series!
This book breaths new life into modern vampire fiction. It puts a new spin on many of the classic vampire elements and creates a rich history that leads to modern day confrontation with worldwide consequences. Perhaps most exciting of all, it turns out that this is the first book in a three part series that, by the conclusion of Shadows Of The Midnight Sun, the series is virtually guaranteed to be a crowd-pleasing success. The characters introduced in this book are so rich and engaging that the reader can't help but want to spend more time in their world. Bring on the second book! I can't wait!
