Very clever format! So creative. I did not appreciate the ending. I won't say exactly why, because spoilers, but I think the ending would have been better without the last 15 pages. It would have made for a more genuine ending. But. Also. It's YA. So, I expect they'd give us a more “happy” ending than what would make sense.
This is a book worth sharing with friends who either love personality assessments, or who have no clue about them, but would like to! I love that so many types of personality test types are included, and how each has a simple “what you need to know” explanation of each.
I can see me keeping this book around as a quick reference if I'm conversing with a friend about a particular type of personality assessment and they aren't familiar with it. I'll just whip this book out, let them have a quick read over the basics of a particular type of personality assessment, and off we go back into our conversation.
We personality nerds needed a book like this! Thanks, Anne!
So, I started listening to a podcast called The Babysitters Club Club, and it convinced me I should go back and visit this series from my childhood. I only read the first book, and maybe one or two others when I was a kid, I favored Historical Fiction so I didn't really get into these.
Now, I feel the need to read the book corresponding with the next episode of BSCC, so I gave this one a read this morning. Wow, do they take me back to my junior high years! The drama of girl friendships. The obsessing over cute boys, daydreaming, but being too afraid to tell them you like them! The babysitting. The complaining about parents. Good times. ;)
I think I would have enjoyed these more in 7th grade, but I tried them in 5th or 6th (maybe even younger than that!) so they didn't appeal to me.
I'm going to really enjoy going through these books along with the podcast! Such bookworm fun!
This might be one of my favorite Haddix books yet. And although it's based in the early 1900s time period, the themes and considerations offered in this book are things we should be figuring out, answering, acting on right now, here in the year 2016. We Americans have come so far, yet have so far to go, and for some reason, we really love repeating history.
This. Book. It will be going on my “life-changer” shelf. I actually didn't realize I could call myself a depressive until I read this book. As I started reading the very first chapter, I realized he was describing me with chilling accuracy. How did he know I think this way?
What a relief of a lifetime to have a name to call this “way” I've been my whole life.
What a bigger relief to find that this book is FULL of hope that I can change the patterns that have followed me all my life and practical ways I can grow!
If you've ever dealt with anxiety and depression in any form in your life, I can't recommend this book enough. If a loved one has ever dealt with anxiety and depression, you can count on this book to help you truly understand how you can help.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would!
I bought this book for my daughter, but ended up stealing it and reading it myself. Don't worry, I gave it back. :)
This book is a great inspiration for any young aspiring artist.
Kristina's story is interesting and inspiring, and I love the way she “shares” her book with the reader and invites them to start creating within its pages right away!
If you have a creative young soul in your life, or if you ARE one, get this book! It's fun!
