Tough to unpack. But then I guess insanity is like that. Lovely stuff artistically, bouncing from one style to another and back again. Not an easy read but if redemption tales are your thing and you have the stomach for lunatics mind, this could be your thing.
This is for the audiobook. I really enjoyed the setting and the magical elements. The story itself is solid and engaging, pulled me in for sure. My only complaint is that it dragged a bit about 2/3's of the way in. The violence wasn't expected but not off putting. Overall very enjoyable.
This autobiography is a bit awkward but then again isn't that always the case when a person is being honest about their life? It is Moebius so the art is good but I am not comfortable with looseness of the line and not a fan of the very obvious photoshop coloring.
Finland seems like a very interesting place and it set in contemporary world. The characters are interesting in their idiosyncratic way and I enjoyed them all. Mystery itself, not too complex and required a lot of suspension of belief. That part dragged but thoroughly enjoyed the rest.
I liked this entire series. The watercolor art is lovely and story is quite good. The narrative arcs for the main characters are engaging and resolve in sensible/believable ways.
Very basic discussion of life and as it says it is pithy. Fun read that for some one like myself - haven't read on this subject in years - a good general catch up on some recent research.
Well written mystery in an updated Sherlock way. Nothing too serious, just a fun entertainment. This could really be a Saturday morning matinee if it were a movie and there is nothing wrong with that.
Enjoyable, pushed the limits of techno speak laden sci fi for me but an excellent addition to the collection of novels in Revelation Space universe. Was surprised by the almost(?) hopeful longterm resolution/ending?
Interesting story, but a deep dive on Abigail Kamara and the challenges she is facing. The greatest strength of this whole series is Aaronovitch's skill with characterization. Yes it is fantasy but the main protagonists are real humans with real/relatable problems.
Pretty meh. Just meh. Story, setting, characters, art, and language just really aren't worth going over. Only for the Dune completionist.
It is a cozy, it has plot holes, and it is a delightful little bit escapism spiced with some interesting characters. It is funny and homespun truths bounce around in the dialogue. Worth a read if you like books that don't need or stand-up to tight scrutiny. Just enjoy.
A phenomenal story by N.K. Jemison (that it is a Green Lantern story is almost incidental, almost). Jamal Campbell has created a world that is amazing, just amazing - a unique combination of color, line and sheer brazen imagination. I haven't something this bold and clear yet visually complicated and rich. This is worth your time.
Wow, what a transformation! Great comic book series to a wonderful audio play. I had forgotten just how dark some of these stories got - yikes! True horror tales. Overall, wonderfully produced and acted, worth the listen as a standalone work apart from the original source material.
Fun book that discusses just how amazing fungi are in particular and nature is in general. Read by the author and they did a great job. Recommended for sure.
Very enjoyable edition to the Xuya universe. I really love the universe Aliette de Bodard has created. S0 much I don't know that is being referenced and yet I get it. One day I guess I will run some of this down but not yet - I really like the feeling of vaguely familiar yet still not of my world or my experience that these stories create.
Oh what fun. Great world building, engaging characters, the plot was enjoyable and overall very well written piece of entertainment.
Okay - this is first in the series that I didn't like the mystery being solved. I don't like serial killer POV and the villain was almost an overworked cliche. Happily it was easy to skip those parts and. stay with parts I liked. The main cast and the setting.
Fun primer to those new to the topic and an enjoyable “state of the field” for those looking to catch-up with the subject.
