I was so hoping this would be as intriguing as the first book but unfortunately, it was not. I wanted to learn more about the complexity of the bees as hinted at in the first and mentioned in the second but in this book it was really messy. I mean the author has introduced a character that seems to hint at having the qualities of bees but done it in a way that makes you say what the heck is this? Is this an already mentioned but not first perspectived yet? Which one of the several groups presented so far are they part of? Is the author presenting the first person in a new group?
I was ok with not having any of the original team in this book and ok with having 4 new team members but the author has bogged down and seriously muddied the water with massive quantities of internal dialogue, time 4! Just as the forward motion takes off, the internal dialogue begins and bogs it back down. And granted, I was listening to this while driving so I probably missed the announcement at the start of some chapters as to whose perspective was being presented; needless to say I was seriously confused by who was speaking. Even the voice actors didn't help me because I was not able to match a primary voice to a character from the start, let alone their secondary voices for other characters. And not to mention each voice actor's own take on the same character!
I gave up at 44%.
