Story - 5 of 5 - This book is all about the story. Granted you'll want to come with a preexisting interest in submarines and / or technology to enjoy it. I enjoyed the book because I enjoy both topics. This book is the story of the creation of submarines and the technology advancements made in and for them, to solve issues and demands, across time.
Character - 4 of 5 - Alot of the book is the story of individuals that create and / or use the technologies. The authors do a great job of giving a quick background of each individual to give the reader a sense of why the individuals are in the book (creator or user) and their skills, without too much slowing down of the storyline.
Setting - 3 of 5 - The world building is not the focus of this book, what's here is just enough to convey the driving forces behind the advancements of submarines and technology.
Language - 3 of 5 - The authors did a great job of holding back the tide of technical jargon that could have gone into a book such as this one, which would make this door a 5. Instead the emphasis is on the story and characters, yet giving enough technical language for a tech-savvy reader to follow along. They also fully qualifying acronyms rather than make you guess. All this results in a door of 3.
