I'd already read this story in The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall but this edition is more like an illuminated manuscript in that the outer rim of every page is a lovely kaleidoscope of images from the story.

Anne McCaffrey doesn't disappoint. She has some science, some non-science, people you just don't like and others you do, and not a cliff hanger. I much prefer the books in this series that she wrote on her own; they seem to have a better flow to the sentences than some of her collaborations with others.

Considering the age of the book, the science involved is not that well known yet, which is amazing. However the storyline hasn't age well for me.

The author does a great job of blending her family's part in the story she tells with the story of the tribes relocated to Oklahoma and the challenges of working thru the legal system to correct sovereign boundaries.
