Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold

Wrote a review for

Stephen Fry brings Greek mythology to life with cheeky British humor and enthusiasm that sweeps you along. He keeps the depth and emotion of the original stories without sinking into tragedy, which is the right balance for a book that wants you to fall in love with these tales rather than be crushed by them.

What elevates this beyond a simple retelling is that Fry traces a continuous line from ancient Greece to the present. He shows how these myths still live in scientific names, word roots, and even the language of mental illness (among other things).

The creativity of ancient people using logic, magic, and observation to explain the world is fascinating, and Fry's excitement is infectious. This is great to read if you're mythology-curious, a veteran of the classics, or somewhere in between. Highly recommend the audiobook read by Fry himself.
