3.5 stars — slow start but an emotionally satisfying ending. This took a little while to hook me, but Dante’s growth and the emotional moments in the final chapters made the journey worth it. Full review below.

The story starts with a forced engagement between two strong-willed people dealing with family expectations, reputation, and pride. The first half felt slower to me because a lot of time is spent building the tension and power dynamics between them. Once the emotional stakes deepen, though, the story starts moving and becomes much more engaging.

Dante’s character growth was the highlight. Watching him go from controlled and prideful to vulnerable and patient really worked for me. The moment when he finally humbled himself emotionally felt like the turning point of his redemption arc.

Vivian already knows who she is, so her journey felt more about holding her boundaries and deciding whether Dante had truly earned her trust. I appreciated that she didn’t rush forgiveness.

The spice level felt moderately spicy with open-door scenes. It’s definitely there, but the emotional tension and character growth were what made the story land.

I also listened to the audiobook while reading, and the duet narration worked really well. The narrators brought the characters and emotional moments to life.

The ending and epilogue felt satisfying, and I’m curious to continue the series. Each book follows a different couple, so they work well as interconnected standalones.
