I normally don't write reviews, and will not mention how this is similar to Lord of the Rings since so many already have.

As a stand alone story, I could see in 1977 how it would be well received.

But today with so many fantasy books being released, it does not really stand the test of time. I was indifferent to all the characters, did not feel immersed in the world, and was getting tired of the one dimensional lore dump expositions that exist through this book. There were times in which things were too conveniently inconvenient and vice versa. By the end I just started skimming just because I wanted it over.
