If I'm being completely honest here, the only reason I finished this book is because I've heard great things about the rest of the series. It's just... so hard to read. All of the metaphors, strike-outs, and repetition just had me slogging though the book to finish. Hopefully, what I've heard is true and I didn't finish this book for no reason... sigh
The Bachelor + Hunter Games = The Selection
Bachelor: one guy, lots of girls competing for his heart.
Hunger Games: similar class system where all the poor people are at the bottom with the trash jobs and the rich people living super extravagant lives
This is all I could think about when I read this book, and I don't mean that in a negative way. I love watching the Bachelor, so this was perfect for me!
Even though I'm not religious, my spouse is a Christian, and many people in my daughter's life are Christians so she will eventually learn about Christianity. It's nice to have a book that I know was written by progressive Christians to introduce the bible to her in a way that's not harmful. Plus, my favorite bible scholars like this book so that's a double win in my book!
