The quote from the book that basically sums up the pros (pro, actually) and cons of being a doctor (and I know this to be true first hand because I am a doctor too): “The hours are terrible, the pay is terrible, the conditions are terrible; you're under-appreciated, unsupported, disrespected and frequently physically endangered. But there's no better job in the world.”
5 stars for being a great read and exposing the very emotional side of being a doctor and not just the practice of medicine.
“First you will smile, and then you will cry.” - This warning given by the narrator in the prologue pretty much sums up the emotional see-saw one would go through while reading this tear-jerker masterpiece by Nicholas Sparks.
I finished this book within a couple of days. Yes, the book is pretty slow moving, but once it gets to the story, you won't want to put it down.
The novel addresses one of the roots of the debates all around the world, Euthanasia (mercy killing). Moreover, it tackles discrimination in gender and color. And lastly, it reminds the readers the value of the Hippocratic Oath.
It is very rare to come across a book so well-written being a medical thriller. One hell of a page turner by Sidney Sheldon with an extraordinary plot twist and the absolutely perfect ending.
