Loved the world created here! There were a couple of times throughout i found I was having characters just thrown at me without much fleshing out but most weren't super plot-dependant anyway. The last 20% really saved this for me and ill definitely be picking up the next installment! Rorrick is for the Damon girlies and i can't wait to see more of it 👏🏻
Greek mythology retellings can be so hit or miss, and they're reaching the point where its hard for one to stand out in a well saturated market. This story was told wonderfully. I really connected with Meddy and how the author handled handled her story - which is rife with injustices. She treats her sensitively, in a way that allows us to see her as something other than the snake haired monster we're used to. Very well told.
A touching story that opened my eyes to issues surrounding the mistreatment of native children and the difficulties within the foster system. Slightly lowered score as it sometimes felt like bad things were happening just to advance the plot rather than realistic tragedies unfolding. Overall well written and enjoyable.
I loved reading about Banshees, a paranormal creature we really don't get enough fiction about Unfortunately as interesting as the paranormal aspects were some of the sub-plots were just a bit of a slog. The ending seemed quite abrupt and though it's clear the author is setting up for a sequel, it mostly just left me feeling dissatisfied as some of the loose ends. Overall enjoyed so a 3.5 stars, but I don't think I'll be reaching for the sequel when it comes.
A sinister retelling of a tragic true story (with some elements of other horrific incidents). A truly repulsive main character who commits heinous acts, this novel tells of the tragedies committed on a young girl by our primary antagonist but also shows the failings dealt to her by the society around her. This book filled me with rage and broke my heart all at once, for the injustices faced by women both before and after death.
After the 5th “Mummy” in the span of 12 pages I knew I wouldn't make it through this.
