Oh gosh. This book I absolutely adored this book. I spent an entire day with this book because I just COULD NOT justify putting it down. To say devoured it would be an understatement. I dont even know where to start with this review, but... we might as well start with our MC. Keelyn. I can't say just how much I loved that she was so headstrong. She started out as this whiny little girl who just wanted to flit around and be in love with Robert and I‘m not going to lie, I was a little bit worried that I wouldn't have any kind of connection with her, but she really proved herself; absolutely determined to get revenge for her sister. And then enter Tadgh. Considering the guy is cursed out the ass he has such a fun sense of humor and the way that he interacted with everyone in the book just kept a smile on my face the entire time.
I loved the main characters on their own, and I loved them coming together and falling in love so, so much more.
I'm going to end this with an honorable mention to Ruari, because I love a funny sidekick. What would any book be without a funny sidekick?
Scarlett doesn't get any better in this book... if anything she gets freaking worse.
I'm losing sight as to what the point of these books are. All anyone does is fight and argue and bicker - and not even in a fun way.
Everyone keeps secrets from everyone. There's constant betrayal. Alaric is literally constantly behind the scenes laughing as everyone falls into place like chess pieces and... I'm just not happy.
Something about this book rubbed me the wrong way it gave me... icky vibes. I don't know how else to put it. There's little to no happiness with anyone to even out all the dark depressing madness that goes on and it leaves me feeling dark and depressed in the worst way.
The romance isn't cutting it either. Between the fighting and the treating each other like shit the entire book I'm really missing the mark with Sorin and Scarlett. Although, I am liking Callans little romance arch.
I'm at the point where I don't really want to keep going anymore..
We've left behind the Caligiari Carnival and we've entered the Mortmain Mountains!
I appreciate that this book has kind of gotten away from the repetitive roots that we grew to expect from this series. It was fun watching the Baudelaires grow as individuals in this one. Although it's not my favorite of the series, it is right up there!
I say all this, but as I'm reading it to my daughter, she's pretty disappointed that there's no more huge disguises and fun characters from Olaf, although she does love the appearance of old characters and the surprise characters that pop up, so she says it evens out.
I always say that this series is entirely dependent to be exactly what you expect it to be. With maybe the addition of an extra twist or turn in this one.
