tastefully gruesome and emotionally touching. themes are poignant but rehashed. dialogue is weak and the side characters feel somewhat contrived, but overall a good read.

this book may as well be an extended sex-ed psa

masterful atmosphere and visceral descriptions but hampered by weak characterization. relies too heavily on the gross-factor

Pop science at its worst

It's not super well written and really didn't live up to my expectations, but it was a nice read with some interesting details and symbolism. I think it was quite important for its time, even if it isn't beautifully written.

I enjoyed it. It's not as well written as the other famous dystopias it's compared to, but I think its themes are more relevant.

The characters are usually pretty annoying (which is 100% understandable given the setting), but I really like John. He's one of my favorite characters I've read recently.

Liked the atmosphere and the characterization. Interesting seeing the dynamics between the characters unfold.  If you like books with an unreliable main character/narrator, you might like it.
