The Silent Patient

Really not my cup of tea. I felt like the entire time the author was trying to show off how smart he was, but ended up just being incredibly heavyhanded with all the troupes and themes throughout the novel. An exercise in "show, not tell". This dumbass therapist decided to just TELL everything, but without the fun of having an obviously unreliable narrator.

I think I would have been happier if the book didn't have the "twist" at the end.

I had to read this for a book club and I am going to sit and be polite and try my best to be normal when we talk about this book because good god.

The Sunlit Man

Not my favorite. I feel like when Sanderson spits out a Cosmere novel, he relies too much on this universe he has created instead of building compelling characters and storylines. The Stormlight archive used to be cool and novel and actually mean something, but now it just feels like a reiteration of the same things that were established in the first book. There seems to be room for so much more that Sanderson isn't utilizing. Which makes sense, he's found his target audience and he's going to stick with it.
