I start more books than i finish... and "it does not look like you like fun while reading" is something someone told me... I'm working on reading more joyful stuff... like kant, witgenstein or ahrendt

I just finished Cory Doctorow – Walkaway. I don’t like everything from Cory Doctorow also people tend to not like this book. But that’s how I treat books… sometimes books are “not for me” and then I just put them aside and look at something else.

Back to Walkaway. Finally, a science fiction / fantasy book I finished since a long time. I like the slow buildup of certain narratives and story arches. A thing I’m not used to at all anymore. TV Shows broke that for me… fast-paced 20 minute intros into a world are easy when you can convey much detail in an audiovisual manner.

Doing that in books… takes time – Almost 2 Chapters for me. And even towards the end the world building does not stop. Cory takes his time how certain details are worked in and at some point are revealed. I like it, but I also like the lingo (it lends a lot of form internet culture) and how concepts of open source, anarchism, gender norms are cleverly woven in without taking too much room. Reading it in light of “AI” and the current enshittification of things gives it a new spin in my eyes.
