When a phone calls comes in, demanding that someone go out to check on Mary Moore, the new police officer heads out to do a welfare check. His boss has told him not to waste his time, as there is never anyone at the house, but someone is there - and they are just waiting for someone to come inside.
Great story!
Caz sets out on vacation, only to find that she has been chosen to participate in a new reality tv show. But this is far outside the bounds of any show that has been done before.
As she sets out, she is initially alone, but she starts to find some others that were left on the ship, and together, they are determined to get off as soon as possible. But things start to go wrong, quickly, and one by one, their numbers dwindle.
Caz is determined to survive, and get off the ship before the game gets any deadlier.
This was a fantastic read, and one that I really enjoyed. The cliffhanger at the end sort of got me (and if you want to know, you need to read the book), but there were a few things that were not quite tied during the book, and I am hoping that another one will address these - but we will see!
Trail of the Lost: The Relentless Search to Bring Home the Missing Hikers of the Pacific Crest Trail
Every year, there are hundreds of hikers that take off onto Pacific Crest Trail. Most of them make it back without any incidents, and with some great stories. Others find trouble along the trail, and have some horror stories to share. Yet others step off, never to be heard from again - and that is where this book begins.
There are three main cases that are followed, and the many different leads that came in, locations, and more - but none have led to a successful conclusion. The names of the missing grow each year.
This was a fantastic read - I would love to type more, but I don't want to ruin the book for readers. But it was amazing, and definitely worth a read!
The murder trial of Leopold was something else - but afterward, he became a changed person. There was a presence that he had in prison, and he worked hard to keep a clean image behind bars. Many said it was not sincere, but there were some that said it was.
Interesting read. This case was a hard one, but the author lays everything out well. Great true crime for those that are interested in the genre.
The habits of animals differ from night to day. In this book, the author takes you around the world, with different animals, to see what their habits are - during the daytime and the nighttime.
I loved this! Great read, with easy to understand verbiage for younger readers. Definitely one that I would put into my home library!
Dr. Kate Downy is about to have her world turned upside down. When deaths start happening at her hospital, she is concerned. As she dives deeper, she finds something far worse, but lacks the proof she needs. But, she may just find it in the most unlikely of places.
This was a great read, and one that I highly enjoyed! I look forward to the second book in this series.
You cannot go wrong with this fabulous collection from Ambrose Bierce! One of the best horror authors around, his stories will stir your imagination.
Some of the favorites include, The Moonlight Road, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, The Eyes of the Panther, and The Spook House.
Simply a handful of some of his best works, brought together for horror fans of all ages. This is one that I will definitely be adding to my personal library, and reading often!
The siblings continue their goal of trying to rid the small towns of demons, but this case is going to be a bit different. Their last one was a loner, but this demon has ingratiated himself with the entire town, and everyone loves him!
Get ready for another grand adventure!

Blake Rossi is determined to kill Steven, his father - and he will sell his soul to do it. After making a pact with a demon to help his friend regain use of his legs, he turns his sights back to Steven. After gaining some help from an angel, he might just have Steven in his sights - but there are going to be some consequences that he is not yet aware of..
This was an interesting read - hopefully the author continues this series, as it was left open for more books to come. I need some answers from this read!
A quick run down of Sherri Rasmussen, and the decades long search for her killer. This was a great read - as it gave the aspects of the case without a long, drawn out overview.
With DNA evidence, her killer was finally caught, a detective, who was also Sherri's husbands former girlfriend.
The fact this case took so long to solve is heartbreaking. The killer is now behind bars - where she belongs.
Short and interesting run down of many of the haunted locations in Pennsylvania. Sprinkled among dad jokes and non-quotable one-liners, the author brings the history and the supposed hauntings of each location.
Overall decent read (and some of the dad jokes weren't half bad), for those who enjoy paranormal places! There are some neat ones to add to the must see list!
Oh my goodness, I love any story about Shane Ryan, and this was no exception. House of the Dead opens with what seems to be a simple task - retrieve some stolen items, and return to James Moran. But the task turns out to be anything but simple, and Shane soon realizes that there is more at play than just collecting some haunted items.
What a great read! I was hooked from the first page, and could not stop until I had finished the entire book. Fabulous and engaging! I cannot wait for the second book!
Clea Koff takes us through the years she spent working on mass graves, and victims of genocide in various countries. While the crimes that were committed were terrible, Clea manages to keep a sense of humanity and humor around her work, even when it starts to wear on her.
This was a rough week in spots, as we deal with the terrible crimes that can be meted on others, and the realization for some in the areas that these crimes were actually committed. It was a good read though, and I really enjoyed the humanity that the author brought to the pages. She didn't forget why she was there and talked about her passion for helping families find answers. The ages of some of the victims really bothered me, as a mother. I was horrified that this could even take place, but as we have seen through history, humans are capable of truly evil deeds.
Good read overall.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this audiobook to review.
Fort Sumter - everyone knows this as the beginning of the American Civil War. But there was more than just the Confederate government deciding to fire on the fort. There were months negotiations, and a lot of different opinions on the matter.
Bruce Chadwick walks through what led up to the firing on Fort Sumter, and the beginning shots of the war. This was well done and easily laid out, with plenty of quotes and documented items throughout the book.
Highly enjoyable read!
If you are a fan of the show, Ghost Hunters, then most of these cases are going to be familiar to you. Steve Gonsalves takes us through some of his favorite cases, and provides a bit more background, as well as some of his thoughts on the various locations that are discussed.
I really enjoyed this read! It was a lot of fun - and now, I need to go back and rewatch the show, and align some of his thoughts to the show itself.
A great look into the lives of three queens, who were all fated to unhappy lives.
This was an interest book overall, but would highly recommend this one to readers who are newer to history. Catherine de Medici, Elisabeth de Valois, and Mary, Queen of Scots were in a time when women could hardly wield power without a male counterpart (although Elizabeth I disproved that notion).
Interesting read, well laid out, and full of great information. I enjoyed this one!
Alice Roberts brings an interesting look at Britain, and some of the different theories around the history and changes to history. Bringing a fresh perspective to the mix, the history of Britain has been shrouded in some controversy - mostly around the Romans and their times in the isles.
This was a great read. I did find as I was going through that I didn't agree with everything, based on a historical background, but there was some convincing evidence for other aspects. It was one of those books that you need a highlighter for, and maybe some sticky notes for further research.
Looking forward to reading some other titles from this author.
Toby Wilkinson walks through the beginnings of archaeology in Egypt, the struggles, and the men and women who were instrumental in its creation.
Throughout different countries, there were some who came to travel through the sands, and during those journeys, there were some great discoveries that were made. The struggles for control over the dig sites, the artifacts, and stopping the flow of stolen artifacts out of the country plagued the leaders from the start - and it would only get worse as Egyptomania grew.
I loved this read! It was well done, and full of fabulous information! I look forward to more from this author.
