Richard III is one of the most controversial kings in English history. You either love him or you hate him. There really is zero in between. As I was reading through this book, there was quite a bit of history that, of course, you need where it sets up what happens, and what we are focusing on for this book. I kept thinking, “come on, get to Richard... “ but that history is needed - because if you do not understand the events that lead up the event in question - well, the book will not make much sense.
Richard III was a magnate of the North, long before he became the king of England. There was distrust among many over the marriage of Edward IV to Elizabeth Woodville - and rightly so. Her family did not bring anything to the country, but they sure knew how to get what they needed out of it (including marrying one brother to a woman who was 60 years older than he was - in order to gain control of her fortune). Anyway, back to Richard. His time in the North not only solidified many things, but he showed himself to be fair, concerned about everyone who lived within his bounds, and willing to help those who needed it.
I really enjoyed reading this book! I love anything Richard III, and so this was a fun, informative read. I highly recommend it!

My Thoughts On The Inheritance Games:
Oh my goodness! What a book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one, and actually read it in on sitting - I could not put it down! I was hooked from the start. I loved all the different riddles and the many different layers of the book. From the rough start, and the “I am not sure where this is going,” to a complete turnaround, this book is one that has several twists. Those Hawthorne boys though - danger in suits! Could you trust the brothers? No? Who could be causing so many of the issues, and how do you navigate something you have no idea as to what is going on?
I have a feeling this is going to be an instant hit with anyone who reads it! I can't wait to share it with everyone I know!
Put this one on your must-read list - its the perfect weekend novel!
Oh my goodness, I am excited to share this book review with you! There are many books out there for kids with so many characters, that many of them have a hard time trying to maintain who did what. The Beast and the Bethany is totally different. There is a small loveable cast, and they are memorable. Kids will not have any difficulty reading through this book, and remembering who is who!
While I was reading through this book, I kept thinking, this is something that my kids would love! I may incorporate this as one of the books that I read to my students in the future, as it was one of those that will have you giggling, slight bursts of irritation, and then, the story redeems with a memorable ending.
Get to know Ebeneezer Tweezer, Bethany, and the Beast in the attic, as this story takes you on an adventure that you will not quickly forget! This book will release in early December, and that makes it perfect for a Christmas present, or a just because gift!
The First Village is a great look into the later years of the Roman-occupied areas, and the many changes that were coming into Wales.
This historical fiction piece was well done and well written. I enjoyed the entire book, (although there were a few times I felt it was a stretch), but the plot and the overall tone was enjoyable. For those who enjoy history, this is a fun read!
Anything with Alexander the Great will capture my attention. He was a powerhouse in the ancient world. However, upon reading this book, I found that I was disappointed on many levels.
While Alexander DID push the boundaries of his territory far beyond what had been done in the ancient world to that point, much of what was through some of the foundations that his father put into place.
As a historian, I felt that there were several places where information could have been laid out better, while giving more credence and credit to Alexander's father - and even more so - to the troops that fought, followed, and died to create this empire.
There are so many different theories around Alexander, but I felt this barely scratched what should have been done.
This story had a great premise, and overall interesting story, but it fell flat in some areas. Some of the characters were hard to resonate with, but the story kept me rolling along.
I did enjoy the read overall, just needed a little oomph in places to push it to a five star read for me! Great for late night reading!

Roger Williams was one that popped up continually in my history courses, but there was no in-depth discussions. This book went further into Williams and the many different incidents that he was involved in. I found myself intrigued by many of the different uprisings, as well as the unrest that was going on with the native tribes.
Definitely worth a read!
If you love Roman history, you are going to enjoy this book! I was hooked from page one!
Ryan Fleming did a fabulous job with this book, giving an in-depth view, and also bringing these characters to life. With Christianity just making an entrance in the Roman world, there were quite a few things to overcome.
The way this book was done made the characters feel alive again, while bringing a fresh perspective. Perfect weekend reading!
The entire world has been horrified, yet fascinated by the death camps. How could evil so perverse exist, and how could it have been quietly done, allowing for the extermination of millions.
This book dives into the story of those who were behind the construction and execution of the Concentration camps. It goes into what drove these men, how they rose through the ranks, and how the mastermind of the most evil construction came to life.
As a history teacher, I was fascinated by the story in this book, which shed more light into the background of the camps, and what motivations drove each of the men involved to more evil.
Not a comfortable read, but one that was enlightening nonetheless.
When the Andrea Doria set sail, everyone figured it would be another routine voyage. No one could have envisioned what horrors awaited in the middle of the ocean.
This book was amazing in more way than one. I enjoyed getting into the history, the stories, the mechanics of what made it all happen, which mistakes were made (by both sides) and how the event could have been avoided.
If you love history, this is one book that you need to read! It was well-rounded, and brought the Andrea Doria to life once more!
Oh my, this book... it was one of those that you know the tragic ending, but you cannot stop reading. Buddy Levy breaks down the entire Greeley Expedition, and gives us a picture into the lives and travels of the ill-fated crew. They were beset with trial after trial, and with the many different issues they faced, they did their best to survive in the rugged terrain.
While this is nothing new, the way this book lays out the expedition, taking you step by step through the frigid winters, you felt as though you were there. I could not put this down, and I hate that it took me so long to pick it up! I look forward to reading more by this author.
Cholera was one of the major killers of the Victorian age. When someone became sick, it was very rare that anyone would recover, and the living and sanitary conditions of the time.
Amanda Thomas did a great job with this book! I loved reading the different accounts, recipes of medicines, and views of the spread of the disease. It was a great look into the cause and effect of the disease, as well as having some of the documentation from the time.
Definitely a must-read for anyone who enjoys reading about plagues! I was not disappointed at all!

This was an interesting story, wrapped in the hysteria of the newly released Dracula. I enjoyed reading through this book! Great for weekend reads or those rainy days where you want to stay on the couch! Perfect for book clubs too!
I have been interested in General Jackson for many years, and more so after moving into a home that is close to the battlefield, which was his last.
General Jackson was someone who found himself on the field of battle, who thrived and flourished under the hardships of war. He was not a great teacher but had taught at the Virginia Military Institute for several years. Students made fun of him, but many failed to know the man.
This portrayal of Jackson made me sit back and wonder how often we, as historians, fail to see the human behind the story, and how often we go only know what we are told, rather than searching deeper to understand the person behind the legends and portrayals we see on movies and fond stories that are shared. This book was a refreshing take on Jackson as a person, the soldier, and the many conflicting sentiments that he struggled with throughout his short life.
Up until now, the women of the German commanders have often been ignored. While their husbands dominated the battlefields, and their legacy has horrified those who have read about the war, the wives were never given much thought.
This was an interesting read, looking into the women who stood beside their husbands, looking for favor within the growing Nazi party, and gives them a voice in history, other than a footnote beside their husbands.
I enjoyed the book and getting to know a few more shadow figures from history.

My kids and I enjoyed reading through this book. Perfect for toddlers and young readers, who are wanting to learn more about different animals.

These stories were fabulous and I enjoyed each one! The first two in this short series were my favorite, although all three were well done. If you are looking for your next favorite read, this is it!

There is something for everyone, even if you do not enjoy each story, you will find something in this book that will interest you!
Kevin Ansbro will have you going from believable to unrealistic - swinging back and forth throughout the entire book. Each story has something for everyone and you might find these are great for the camping trips or other gatherings where you want to scare someone silly.
