My kids LOVED this book! I think this is one that we are going to have to get a copy of. My boys are enthralled with anything military related and spent a good amount of time going through this book and finding something new each time.
When Bess moves to a new town, she is not sure how it is going to be. But, she is soon distracted by many of the new things around her, such as the one-room school she attends. The best part, there is a mystery that needs to be solved, and Bess dives right in. When her uncle finds part of an old cabin behind the kitchen wall, he discovers a trunk and many other things inside. Bess brings the items to her house and begins to go through the documents and clothing, trying to figure out who they belong to.
As she dives deeper into the mystery, Bess begins to feel close to the couple that she is reading about, and wants to know more about them. She even begins to feel as though she was back in the cabin, during the time that the mysterious couple lived there. But that could not really happen.. could it?
A great little story! Perfect for kids who love a mystery and for those who are gaining their confidence in reading!

I had a hard time putting this book down, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys historical fiction, especially from post World War II, and through the Cold War. A great journey on the road to discovering one's self.

The first chapter or so was a bit slow, but after that, the book picked up and kept rolling right until the end, leaving you wishing for more! I enjoyed reading through. The want to share everything, but not give away the book is there, however, grab a copy and spend a weekend on the couch in pure bliss!

We loved this book, it was a fabulous way of getting kids interested in recycling, and my kids enjoyed the story immensely. We had fun searching for the hidden symbol in each picture, and of course, they liked the Vi and Russ made another appearance.

Despite being an avid Ricardian, I did enjoy reading this book. For historical fiction it was not bad. While King Edward is on his way to London to be crowned after the death of his father, Richard, his uncle intercepts them. The Woodville side of the family was trying to control the king afraid to lose their power if they lost the king. But Richard struck before they realized they were in danger, removing the King from their safekeeping.
But when Edward is deposed and Richard stands to become king, things get very interesting indeed..
Great book for a quick spring break read!
In this retelling of the Biblical story of Ruth and Boaz, we are transported to England. When Rena marries into the Hawley family in England, she thinks her life is going to be perfect. However, when her husband falls sick and dies before he can take her home, she is heartbroken. As her mother-in-law prepares to return to England, Rena makes the decision to return with her. But the shock of what awaits her there is more than she is prepared for.
Penniless, the women are reduced to sleeping in gutters and worse.
When she receives permission to pick up wheat in one of the fields, she counts her blessings that they will be able to eat. However, when the owner arrives, he allows her to continue coming to get more wheat.
As time progresses, there are new blessings for the women, as they are given a decent place to live, and the food is once more on their table. But as she begins to fall in love with Lord Barric, she knows it can never happen. But when his feelings seem to be returned, there are several issues that are going to have to be confronted. As an Indian woman, Rena is looked down upon and disparaged at every turn.
But when a clause in her fathers-in-laws will put things in a different light, she is going to have to make some rather tough decisions...
This was an interesting book, and fun read. Great for beach reading!
