I'm not sure what the Wasp Factory-style twist at the end was supposed to do for me - make me wonder about honor, or what it means to take responsibility for winning at all costs? What it did in fact do was make me wonder why I should care about these characters.
Graeber frequently indulges in the hidden assumptions and leaps of logic that he criticizes classical economists for, but even if his weaker arguments fall short, many of his arrows still hit home. And he presents a refreshing take on the misadventures that led mankind to fall into this mess we call civilization.
Much shorter than Kurosawa's High and Low, it feels like a sketch next to Kurosawa's more fleshed out film.
A beautiful book. Being John Malkovich meets Fantastic Planet in the hands of a technical writer who has gone stark raving sane.
