The plot had potential, but writing was something that annoyed me a lot. Constant internal dialogue, questions upon questions, repeating thoughts. A lot of the writing made me feel like the author doesn't trust the reader to understand, as if dumb enough that things need to be spelled out and reminded constantly. This book could have been 20% shorter if the writing was more concise and repetition was eliminated.
It didn't help that the Odessa's voice actor – while good – was also making the character seem even weaker and "daintier" than she already was, naking dramatic gasp and and sounds of effort in situations where it wouldn't be realistic. Sound effects were not the best in the audiobook either.
